HAPPY BIRTHDAY to this absolute legend. The machine himself, Anthony.
Thanks for putting up with my s**t, being an inspiration and preaching your wise words every day.
Apparently you become the people you’re closest to. If that’s the case I’ll take that (as long as I don’t get your grey hairs as well 😅).
Grateful to have someone to do what we do with and look forward to the next stupid challenge 👀

🔥 Coach Oskar Ironman Austria🔥

⏺ A very special day indeed. Just getting to start line of an event like this is such a privilege, but finishing it along with 1000’s of others pushing themselves to their own limits is something else.

🚨 Finish time: 09:22:02
13th overall age grouper 🚨

🏊‍♂️ 54:59 swim split
Non wetsuit. Rolling start so plan A of staying on ants feet for the whole swim was thrown out the window straight away 👀 😂 Got into a nice rhythm and found myself with 1 other athlete who was willing to take turns and we switched every 500m to the end. Felt easy and couldn’t have got a better start.

🚴 4:56:01 bike
Might have got onto the bike a bit overexcited and spent the first 40km overtaking. Eventually found myself solo until 130km when a group of 5 came rolling past. After this point I was just waiting to get off the bike. I was holding in a p*e, unable to get into a rhythm with the surging group and the legs were also starting to feel it.

🏃 3:20:08 run
Started the run feeling surprisingly good and springy. All was 👌 until around 14km when the pace began to drop off a cliff 😂 From that point on it was a case of damage limitation, riding the ups and downs and getting the job done in the midday sun 🥵 (note: when the Ironman website says race temp 27 degrees, prepare for 34)

⏺ I’ll admit that for a second I was disappointed in not going closer to the 9hr mark but on reflection I’m very happy and proud of the performance I put in, especially considering the less than ideal run prep I had the last couple months. As with the ultra, another part of the mind unlocked, and a whole lot more learnt. 🔑 🧠

None of this would have been possible without the unconditional support from who did a good job kicking me out of bed for those early sessions and putting up with my moaning x The other amazing woman in my life and not forgetting , and my brother from another mother Anthony.

The fire in the belly is already lit for the next one 👀

We go on 🏄‍♂️

🔥 Coach Anthony Ironman Austria🔥

⏺ It was an unbelievable experience last weekend. I think the first photo sums it up pretty well, I wanted to get everything out of myself that day, and race with no fear, and I think I came very close to doing that.

🚨 Finish time:8:48:14
1st age grouper/6th including pro field 🚨

🏊‍♂️ 53:24 swim
Non wetsuit. Just cruised round, worked my way to the front and settled into a nice rhythm. Taking energy from the location and buzz

🚴 4:48:35 bike
Over biked the first 90k getting carried away with a pro, 2nd loop was considerably hillier and damage limitation kicked in for last 60km. Got off the bike and my back had completely seized which made getting my socks on quite a challenge 😂, but I was very grateful to be off the bike at this point and in a decent time.

🏃 2:57:12 run
By this point it was 33 degrees and I went out a little quick 🤌, but we got round… just. I’ll take a sub 3 hours in those conditions. Not much more needs to be said, I went somewhere quite dark for the last hour 🏄‍♂️

⏺Now, none of this would be possible without some special people in my life. Firstly thank you always supportive of the stupid stuff I want to do, sacrificing a lot yourself. Secondly the women in the 2nd picture .haynes the absolute DON of the Haynes household, looking back I can’t believe what you used to put yourself through just so I could swim, bike, and run back in the day. Thirdly the old man at home, who doesn’t really have a scooby what an Ironman is 😂, he always pops into my head when the suffering gets real bad, reminding me that this stuff is voluntary and it’s a privilege being able to explore what’s inside us. Lastly my big bro , a massive part of the family unit that gets s*** done, always looked after me, I’m forever grateful and can’t wait for your debut next year? 👀 haha

Alas good times or bad times, we keep showing up to chop wood and carry water

We go on 🏄‍♂️

🚨 Race results🚨

⏺ As we said, last weekend was a huge one for racing but we promise this is the last post! Other than the ironmans and the group we had racing outlaw half, we also had 2 very special Tri Guys girls racing their first half ironmans!

⏺ HANNAH: Hannah has had a rough run up to 70.3 Finland with illness and other things but because of her consistency over winter was still able to deliver a good performance. A finish of 7hrs55. Although not what we had in mind and nowhere near what Hannah is capable of, given the conditions (Hot hot hot), stomach issues and the fact it was one of her first triathlon this year I’m very proud of her performance. And let’s not forget she couldn’t even swim 400m non stop less than a year ago 😅.Watch this space because Hannah has a lot more to give.

⏺ JESSICA: When Jess told me she had entered her first 70.3 and it was Andorra, I don’t think she realised how hard a route she had picked 😂 Especially when you consider cycling is Jessicas weakest discipline, and she would have to cycle up a mountain… twice. But I’m thrilled to say she smashed it in 8hrs1. The progress Jessica made in a short time to be able to put a race together like that is outstanding, even if it took a bit of force to get her to ride her bike more 😂. And if that wasn’t enough for the season, we now have a (second) marathon to get ready for 👀

Another example of two athletes pushing their limits, getting well outside their comfort zones and wrecking it. Well done both 👏

🚨 Ironman UK race report: 🚨

⏺ This is an important one so READ! Laurens Ironman Bolton race ended pretty quickly unfortunately. She was involved in a knock of heads with another competitor during the swim, which ended up in her getting fished out and a DNF.
We thought it was important to share this because it’s not always plain sailing. Firstly we took positives from the part of the race Lauren was able to complete and she was on track for her fastest swim yet. Then after a couple of days to absorb the situation and a 1minute discussion 😂 Lauren went and entered the next available Ironman which is Outlaw Nottingham on the 24th July.

You know what I’m going to say next…..

WE GO ON 👊😆

🚨Ironman Austria race report: 🚨

Lucy was the first person to give me a chance many years back, and we’ve come a long way together. It’s one of my proudest coaching moments being there in person, and seeing her cross that line in Austria for her first Ironman in a huge 11:42:26.

I don’t think Lucy could have executed the race any better. It was absolutely scorchio out there but it didn’t phase her. She swam controlled, rode strong and brought it home with a marathon just over 4 hours 🤯. Absolute machine.

In our conversation post race she mentioned it was the least nervous she had been for a race, that’s when you know you’ve put the work in and ready to go. Lucy has juggled a lot this last year and I’m delighted she got the race that showcased all the work and sacrifice she’s put in.

Lucy is obviously suited to the longer stuff 👀 and We’ve highlighted where big improvements can come from. For now tho, a well earned restful summer. Well done Lucy, can’t wait for what’s to come next 🤝

🚨Ironman UK race report: 🚨

has been a dream to coach over the last year. Super consistent and the mental fortitude to get s***done week on week.

Ironman Bolton was his 2nd triathlon for various reasons but when someone rocks up with the approach and mindset like him it’s never a question of weather he’ll be okay. We knew he would. He had a ruck with himself for 13 hours and 16 minutes on course and came out the other end intact and wanting more.

Really looking forward to what he applies himself to next, maybe a more scenic place then the streets of Bolton? For now some rest and time to regroup before the stone gets hammered all over again 🏄‍♂️

🚨 Ironman UK race report: 🚨

⏺ In my post race call with Bobbie this week, we worked out he had only missed 4 sessions since we started together. That’s just over 10months of training and shows the dedication and personality of the guy.

It’s been an absolute pleasure watching the man’s progress towards his first iornman. Finishing in a very respectable 13hrs06. Maybe not the goal we had in mind but everyone knows Bolton is one of the toughest courses out there and this year the conditions didn’t make it any easier. True mental strength and resilience shown over all 3 disciplines and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for him.

Well done BOBBIE. You are 100% what the Tri Guys is about 💪

🚨Ironman UK race report: .leah 🚨

Where to start with .leah . Quite frankly she’s incredible. Always showing up day after day hammering the stone, even when I know a lot of the time she might not have wanted to. That’s what endurance performance is about in any discipline, good days or bad days you still show up.

Leah got dealt a rough hand on race day, with all boxes ticked in training, but the body had other plans with some freak tummy issues showing up very early on the bike. Leahs character shone through and she did what she had to do to get through the bike and run finishing in an amazing 14:50:26 despite the struggles. I mean you know she’s made of different stuff when this was only her 2nd triathlon 🤯

We’ve knocked down some barriers on the bike, going from not having the confidence to ride on her own to knocking out some long rides solo (even if she hated it 😂). I can’t wait to see what she decides to do next, without a doubt she’ll smash it, when you’re as tough as she is success is inevitable. Well done hero, enjoy your break 🍺

Last weekend was a huge one for us at the tri guys, a lot of A races for people ticked off so there will be a lot of race recap posts over the next few days with the word proud being overused a lot :)

Firstly the boys at outlaw holkham. They are some of the veterans of the squad and we get a lot of inspiration from them. None of them have come from a sporting background, and stepped into the sport later then most deciding they want to explore what they can do physically and mentally. Love it.

: The man wanted sub 6 and he went and smashed it by 13 minutes. Very proud of this bloke, he had a little tumble on the bike a few weeks back but didn’t let it derail his prep, and executed a perfect race.

:when I started coaching Dan a few years back the goal was to do a half Ironman, due to covid etc it’s taken a little longer to get there, but delighted for the man to finally tick this off. Going sub 6 on his debut. His knees keep me up at night, and the lead up hasn’t been smooth but his ability and mindset always shine through. Well done mate 🏄‍♂️

:the transformation over the last 2 years for Pete has been special to see, his approach and commitment to training is 2nd to none, and he optimises consistent average work over a long period of time. leading to massive improvements and the confidence to attack a half Ironman

Matt Halsey: Matt is fairly new to the group but has no fear when it comes to challenging himself, which is all that matters. He got round the holkham half after a very short period of time to prep. No fear he stepped up on the day and got it done, giving himself a good test. Hero. I’m very excited to see what he does next year with some consistent work through the winter 🤝
