Day 3 of the Alpine Spirit experience was summit day for and putting together all the learning, the acclimatisation and the confidence to tackle the Breithorn. Under the supervision of our IFMGA guides, the route involves a glacial approach before zig zags up some steep snow slopes lead to an exhilarating beautiful summit at 4154 meters, where the emotions came out in earnest. A fitting ending with the Alpine Spirit experienced.

At Couch2Summit, it's about also enjoying the local culture as much as the mountains and we finished with a lovely fondue lunch and some wine and cheese with views of the legendary Matterhorn. After the descent from the hut, Day 2 of the Alpine Spirit experience for and was glacier skills and equipment training including the use of crampons and ice axes under the watchful eyes of the IFMGA guides we work with. A brilliant day of learning, confidence building and another step towards the Breithorn.

And we managed to squeeze in some ice climbing too!

Day 1 of the Alpine Spirit experience by Couch2Summit for Sujay Susikar and Suresh Kumar B is a hike up from the valley to the magnificent Almageller Hut at 2894 meters with it's stunning views of the mischabel peaks. Apart from warming up those legs, this day is an intro to the alpine landscapes and the night here also helps acclimatise for the 4000 meter peak that awaits. It is also a peek into life at the mountain huts that serve as the base for various climbs and a chance to enjoy the communal nature at the hut with plenty of climbing stories shared at the dinner table!

That was an epic Saturday guiding Bips, Saranya and Shadi on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge. A head torch start at 6 am going up to Pen-Y-Ghent which has a little scramble section at the top, followed by the long drag up to a windy Whernside through the beautiful rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales and then the final sting in the tail from majestic Ingleborough with the final descent back to Horton in Ribblesdale. 40 Kms and 1600 meters of ascent to round off a true classic. The team completed the challenge in 11 hours 30 mins and were hence under the 12 hour "challenge" cutoff. Well done!

Watch Paul and Shadi's epic journey to their first 4000 meter summit in the Swiss Alps.
