🚣‍♀️❤️ A huge thank you from all of us at the Great River Race!

To every single crew who joined us on the Thames this year, thank you for making GRR 2026 such a fantastic day.

From the months of training, planning, transporting boats and getting crews together, to finally lining up at Millwall and taking on all 21.6 miles to Ham, we know just how much goes into getting a boat to that start line.

The atmosphere on the river was incredible and it was brilliant to see such a huge variety of boats, clubs and crews coming together for one very special day.

Thank you for embracing the spirit of the Great River Race, for looking out for one another on the water and for showing so much kindness and appreciation to our volunteers, marshals and safety crews along the way. 💙

We hope you’re feeling very proud of what you achieved and hopefully not too sore today! 😂

It was wonderful to welcome you all at registration, watch you race through London and then celebrate with you at the finish.

🚣‍♀️🎉 IT’S RACE DAY! 🎉🚣‍♂️

The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here**: The Great River Race 2026!**

Today, hundreds of boats and thousands of rowers will take to the Thames for 21.6 miles of racing, making their way from Millwall to Ham in one of the most spectacular rowing events on the river. ❤️

Whether you’re racing, volunteering, supporting from the riverbank or following from home, we hope you have an incredible day.

📸 Keep an eye out, we’ll have cameras capturing the action at different points all along the course, so there will be plenty to share!

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, safety crews, marshals and everyone working behind the scenes to make today possible. Please give them a smile and a thank you when you see them. 💙

To all our crews: race hard, race safe, look out for each other and most importantly… enjoy every minute of it!

🚨 FINAL DEADLINE REMINDER 🚨

A quick reminder to all Great River Race crews that midnight tonight is the final deadline for:

🚗 Parking applications at Ham
🚛 Towing requests
🏗️ Craning requests
📱 Updates to your safety mobile number

After midnight, no further applications or changes can be accepted, as the GRR team needs to complete the final processing ahead of race day.

Please double-check everything is sorted today if you still have anything outstanding! 🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – MILLWALL 🚨

We’ve had a couple of last-minute volunteer drop-outs and are looking for a few extra pairs of hands to join the team at Millwall for the Great River Race.

We particularly need people who are confident working on the slipway and comfortable helping to direct crews and boats safely as they launch and get onto the water.

If you’re available and would be happy to help make race day run smoothly, we’d love to hear from you! 🙌

🚣 7 DAYS TO GO! 🚣

The countdown to The Great River Race 2026 is well and truly ON! 🎉

With just a week until race day, there’s some important information every crew needs to know. Please make sure you’ve read the full Pre-Race Information and shared it with your crew.

📍 YOUR RACE NUMBER & START TIME

You have now been allocated your Race Number and Start Time.

⚠️ Your Race Number now replaces your Entry Number for all communication with the GRR team.

You can find both on the GRR website under:
Race Information → Pre-Race Information

Remember: all crews must be on the water at least 50 minutes before their allocated Start Time.

🚤 OVERNIGHT TOWS TO MILLWALL

If your boat is being towed overnight from Ham to Millwall, you must retrieve it by 10:15am at the latest.

At this point the tide will begin to float the boats and they will no longer be supervised by GRR marshals. Your boat becomes your responsibility.

⏰ Leave plenty of time to register, retrieve your boat and get afloat at least 50 minutes before your start.

📋 REGISTRATION

Please complete your Race Day Registration Form in advance, but DO NOT sign it.

Bring it to the Registration Desk at Millwall, where your signature will be witnessed.

Registration opens from 8:00am at Millwall Slipway.

⚠️ Even if you are launching somewhere other than Millwall, a member of your crew must still attend Registration at Millwall.

🎒 YOUR RACE PACK

At Registration you’ll receive:

🚩 Race Number flag + clamp
🔢 Waterproof Race Number – this MUST be held up by your cox/passenger as you cross the start AND finish lines
⏱️ Electronic timing device
🗺️ Laminated maps
📋 Individual Crew Instructions (ICIs)

You must also print and bring your Short Guidance Notes (SGNs). You cannot go on the water without showing your copy.

Your race flag, waterproof number and electronic timer must all be returned immediately after the race. Failure to return them could result in a £130 replacement charge and your club being banned from the following year's race.

📱 DON’T FORGET YOUR PHONE

Every boat must carry a fully charged mobile phone.

Make sure the GRR team has the number of the phone that will actually be carried in your boat by Monday 7 September.

This number will be added to a one-way WhatsApp group used by Race Control to communicate important information to crews on race day.

🌉 BRIDGE ARCH PLAN

This year’s Bridge Arch Plan is now available under the Race Information tab. A laminated copy will also be included in your Registration Pack.

🏁 AT THE FINISH

Please read the Boat Recovery instructions carefully before race day, particularly if you have booked craning at Ham.

Only boats displaying a Crane Card will be craned out.

Once you're safely ashore, return your electronic tracker and Race Numbers at the Administration Tent to collect your certificates.

🚩 No flag = no certificate!

Certificates must be collected by 5pm on race day – they will not be posted afterwards.

📸 AND A FEW EXTRAS…

📷 Look out for the photographers as you pass under Tower Bridge – crew photos will be available to purchase after the race.

🎤 Our commentators would love to chat to crews once you're off the water – find them near the Timing and Admin tents.

👗 Fancy dress is VERY welcome!

🥓 And yes… there will be coffee, bacon butties and even more loos at Millwall! 🙌

🚨 START NUMBERS & START TIMES ARE LIVE! 🚨

The countdown to the Great River Race 2026 is well and truly on! 🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️

Your Start Number and Start Time have now been added to the Pre-Race Information page on our website, under the Race Information tab.

⏳ Please wait for the page to fully populate before selecting your Entry Number or Boat Name.

Your listed time is the time you will cross the start line in front of the Start Barge at Millwall. Please make sure you are afloat at least 50 minutes before your start time.

A few important reminders:
🚣 Boat towed overnight?�Someone from your crew must attend to your boat on the beach before 10:15am, when boats will begin to float as the tide rises. From this point, your boat is your responsibility – not the GRR Marshals'.

📍 Registration�You MUST register at the desk at Millwall and collect your electronic timing tracker. We have 271 boats to register, so please allow plenty of time! Only one crew member needs to register.

🥓 The important stuff… bacon butties & loos!�Leave yourself time for both. We've doubled the number of loos this year, but there will still be queues – please arrive dressed ready to race and don't use the loos as changing rooms.

🚚 Final check: Have you booked any tow, crane or parking you need?

🚣 ONE MONTH TO GO! 🚣

The countdown is officially ON! In just one month, hundreds of crews will be taking on 21.6 miles of the Thames for the Great River Race 2026. 🎉

📅 Saturday 12 September
⏰ First boat away at 12:45pm

If you’re racing with us this year, now is the time to make sure all those final bits of race admin are sorted:

✅ Entry fees should now be fully paid. Unpaid places will now be released.

🏗️ Craning & Tows: Last call for crane requests at Ham or South Dock Marina, plus tows from Ham to the start at Millwall. Remember: no Crane Card = no access to the finish crane.

🚌 Bus Transfers: Staying at the campsite or a hotel and need transport to the start? This MUST be booked in advance, you won’t be able to simply jump on a coach on race morning.

🛥️ Supporters Boat: Want friends and family to follow the action aboard the Connaught? Make sure their places are booked.

👥 Crew Names: Complete the Crew Names form. We need these for safety and to validate Veteran and Junior trophy entries.

📱 Safety Mobile: Double-check that the mobile number supplied with your entry will be the monitored phone in the boat on race day. A WhatsApp group will be used for race-day communication.

⏱️ Electronic Tracker: Nominate someone NOW to be responsible for returning your tracker immediately after finishing, along with your race flag and clamps.

👕 GRR Kit: Want your official kit in time for race day? Order by 18 August.

🎥 Safety Video: Make sure your whole crew has watched the GRR Safety Video under the Race Information section of the website.

🚁 Drones: Please remember that drones must NOT be used to follow the race due to the proximity of Battersea Heliport.

📜 Certificates: Collect yours from the Certificate Tent by 5pm on race day. They will not be posted afterwards.
