I often have people message me asking, “Is it too late to start training Martial arts?” The answer is simple... it’s never too late.
The biggest piece of advice I can give you is this:
have fun. Enjoy the process. Compare yourself to no one except the person you were the day you first stepped onto the mats. Your only goal is to become a little better than you were yesterday.
Common sense goes a long way, too. Do the things off the mats that will help you on the mats. Don’t eat a huge greasy meal before class. Stay hydrated. Get as much rest as you can. Those little things matter more than people realize.
And remember, martial arts can be hard. Both physically and mentally. The black belt teaching your class has spent years mastering their craft. If he/she walked into your profession tomorrow, they’d be the beginner. They wouldn’t know what you know.
You’re an infant all over again, learning a completely new language. And there’s something incredibly admirable about having the humility and courage to start over as an adult.
Be patient with yourself. Be proud of yourself. Keep showing up.
So stop waiting and start doing
