Drunken Knights faced Cavendish in Eastman Cup Final last night. One player pulling out of match is an inconvenience; when five players pull out it’s a big problem; when those five are GM Williams, IM Dearing, IM Mah, FM Bisby, and FM Moskovic you sense it ain’t gonna happen this year. The pre-match scenario, as half of DK team originally selected was decimated by unavoidable work commitments. Five considerably lower rated replacements were quickly drafted in, the last being Maria just hours before start of match. Adding to gloomy outlook was the fact that Cavendish have already beaten all three DK teams in league this season.

To cut a long story short…Drunken Knights win Eastman Cup.

Cheers!

Hello everyone! This survey is part of my final dissertation, which aims at finding out whether organising combined chess and poker tournaments could be a feasible idea, whether chess players would be interested in participating in it and how exactly such an event should be organised. The survey will…

Exciting finish in prospect to major London chess event – also at Candidates.

Division 1 of London League is going be a close affair at both ends of table. Top two heading towards another final match title decider, whilst just one point separates bottom six teams.

DK1 unbeaten despite couple of dodgy moments. Firsts still have potentially tricky fixtures against Hackney and Cavendish to navigate before Wood Green cheque-in at Plough on 20th May.

DK2 stalled after promising start and remain precariously close to relegation zone. Seconds’ next match against Ilford likely to be crucial. A win would probably guarantee safety – and improve Thirds’ chances.

DK3 secured a temporary lifeline after recent victory at Athenaeum, moving up three places. Thirds will need a repeat performance in at least one of last two fixtures against Kings Head and Richmond.

Best individual scores to date include: Pete S (7/8); Robo (5½/6); Tom R (4½/5); Mosko (4/5); Zehra (9/12); Tomer (7½/9); Charlie (6/7); Fiona (5/7).
