Hello my dear entertainment enthusiasts been a minute, as promised next topic the magic that is MUSIC. Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away (cliché) I was a deejay, selector, entertainer or whatever version you know this profession as. Please remember, have peruse or/and join my webpage

In this role I was provided the privilege to put smiles on faces, showcase some talented entertainers and truly loved what I did. When queried by budding enthusiast as to what makes a good deejay my number one answer was you have to LOVE music. Not just one genre but all genres whether it be pop, soca, rock, soul, rap, reggae, dancehall (dub), heavy metal, R&B and the list goes on.
Growing up I was introduced to music from such artist such Bing Crosby, Jimmy Cliff, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Kitchener and Jimmy Reeves . Lesser-known groups like Goretti Group these were the music my parents had and would listen to. Then came the top 40 charts, my cousin Ronnie influenced me with early reggae/dancehall (dub). As I grew older, I embraced all the rest introduced along the way by several friends and acquaintances.
So, what’s your favourite genres, what’s your favourite song of all time (toughie). What loved song you may have heard which is linked to an unforgettable experience. This is the power of music. Try watching a movie without the background music involved see how it plays its part in everything.
Music has evolved just like anything else several successful artists may not be regarded by some as singers and classed as entertainers because of the intervention of sound engineers and editors however the finished product is the key for their fans who appreciate the product produced. The beauty of music is the reaction and feeling it invokes. There is no detriment on any who produce music in all its formats which create the emotions within its listeners. We are all individuals with different appreciation whether it be the moving lyrics, guitar runs, saxophone mastery, booming baseline, the vocal ability of the artist (ranges from singing, chanting, rapping etc) , the music , the performer of the song or the overall package .
How many times you may have heard a song and not thought about it much but then delivered in the right atmosphere whether in rave/fete, club, in a movie/its music video, concert/festival or even your local/bar as a cover and you opinion change about that particular song. Also, when falling in love with a song/tune don’t forget my favourite plain old repetition of the song if it’s already popular.
The genre Soca derived and perhaps coordinated with Calypso is the music of Trinidad and Tobago every year it creates joy, freedom, unabashed celebrations and the feeling of one family. However sometimes if not heard in the atmosphere of one of the wonders of the world Trinidad Carnival won’t invoke the same reaction. Hence for most first time Soca lovers the year they attended the carnival was the year with the best Soca music.
Please share your favs, as a deejay I loved doing weddings, such a memorable occasion plus we had full access to food/beverages while getting paid smile ( I became known for my love/slow songs ;perhaps a romantic at heart chuckles ) . Therefore my fav song weirdly enough ‘For you I will’ by Monica Arnold, best vocal performer in my opinion the legendary Whitney Houston ( Must mention Yolanda Adams) , my favourite live performance is tough so I plead the 5th ( honourable mentions Mary J Blige , Janelle Monae , Kes , Machel forget this list , its immeasurable )and of course favourite genre Soca .
