WHY I AM WILLING TO PRACTICE MUAY THAI BADLY AS A 53 YEAR OLD FITNESS COACH…
As I tell my clients who are new to strength training and mobility, or returning to exercise after a long break: “you don’t expect to play a concerto the first time you pick up a violin”.
Becoming proficient in any complex skill requires a period of not being good at it. That is part of the process.
A good coach will take time to LISTEN to you; to help you identify your goals, your “Why” and potential challenges, and to bring their expertise to crafting training that helps you both be realistic about your goals AND to exceed your current limits.
For me, my goal with Muay Thai is NOT to become a fighter; it is to improve my skills in the discipline of Muay Thai gradually, not only for my physical wellbeing but also for my mental and emotional health, and confidence. Within the context of what is possible aged 53.
