1. Should I still workout if I’m sick?
Listen to your body! When you’re feeling unwell, whether it’s cold, fever or feeling like your guts are coming up, it’s your body’s time to rest. For the body to heal during sickness it needs hydration, nutrition and importantly sleep/rest to optimise recovery. Going to the gym can not only make you feel worse but also put other people at risk of getting whatever you’ve caught. So take a break and relax🧘
2. Should I still workout if my muscles are sore?
DOMS…delayed onset muscle soreness. If you’re new to the gym, it’ll be a shock when you wake up the day after a workout and feel like you can’t lift your arms. Do not worry. DOMS are a normal inflammatory response to torn muscle tissue which occurs during exercise and is a necessary part of the recovery/healing process for adequate muscle repair. If pain is excruciating and bothering you at night, could be a sign of something pulled or torn in which case rest and seek further medical advice. If your muscles are just feeling very sore that is normal, respond with rest, spread your training days to focus on different muscle groups to allow for recovery, up the protein intake and importantly don’t stop moving🏃
3. Should I still workout if I’m tired?
Tiredness can be relative. Know your limits and your own body. If you’re experiencing true burnout, which occurs at every level of training, a step back can be useful. Recovery is key for progression in the gym and that includes taking a step back sometimes. However, if it’s tired due to work or just feeling a bit lazy, everyone has those days, work still needs to be done. Get in the gym if you can and put the work in. Accountability for your training and lifestyle helps provide discipline, with no discipline, results don’t show💪
