Football is played with your feet… but the best players know that’s only part of the game. 🧠⚽

Your eyes are constantly taking in information.
Your brain is processing it.
Then your feet can execute.

The best players are always thinking ahead.

That’s why Thiago Alcântara’s advice is so simple:

“Football’s always been cerebral. The most important thing is thinking fast.”

Before the ball arrives, ask yourself: What information can I pick up now that will help me make a better decision later?

Train your awareness. Train your scanning. Train your decision-making. 👀⚽

🧤 WHAT ARE SCOUTS REALLY LOOKING FOR IN A GOALKEEPER?

Being a goalkeeper is about far more than making saves.

Scouts are looking at the whole package — how you react, how you communicate, how you make decisions and how you influence the game from the back.

👀 Shot-stopping — Can you make the save when your team needs you most?

🎯 Distribution — Can you start attacks and play confidently with your feet?

🧠 Decision-making — Can you make the right choice quickly under pressure?

🗣️ Command & presence — Do you organise, communicate and take ownership of your box?

⚡ Athleticism & agility — Do you have the movement, reactions and physical tools to perform at the highest level?

The modern goalkeeper has to be more than a shot-stopper.

At Target Football, we work on developing goalkeepers who are confident, intelligent, technically strong and ready for the demands of the modern game.

Most players train for drills.
Elite players train for matches. ⚽️

Every touch. Every movement. Every decision.

The best players make their training look like the game.

Because if you want to improve on matchday, you need to start preparing for the situations you’ll actually face on the pitch.

Train with purpose. Play with confidence.
TRAIN HOW YOU PLAY. 🔥

And this is exactly the philosophy behind something BIG we’re currently building behind the scenes at Target Football… 👀

A brand-new membership designed for young players who are serious about taking their game to the next level.

And we’re going to be giving some of our followers the opportunity to be among the very first players inside before everyone else. 👀

🇮🇹 “If I have to make a tackle, then I’ve already made a mistake.”

Paolo Maldini didn’t become one of the greatest defenders in football history because he made more tackles than everyone else.

He was great because he read the game before the danger arrived.

His positioning.
His anticipation.
His awareness.
His timing.

Maldini understood where the ball was going before it got there — allowing him to intercept, delay and control attackers without constantly diving into tackles.

⚽ The best defenders don’t just react. They anticipate.

Young players: don’t wait until the attacker has the ball to start defending. Scan, read the game and position yourself early.

Make the game look easy by thinking one step ahead. 🧠

⚽️ ELITE PLAYERS DON’T WAIT FOR THE BALL…

The best players are already making decisions before the ball reaches them.

They scan. 👀
They check their shoulder.
They find space.
They adjust their body shape.
They communicate.
And most importantly… they know what they’re going to do next.

Receiving the ball isn’t just about having good technique.

It’s about preparing yourself to make the next action faster.

🔥 Scan before you receive.
🔥 Know where the pressure is coming from.
🔥 Create space and angles.
🔥 Open your body when you can.
🔥 Think one action ahead.

These small habits are what separate good players from elite players.

👉 Don’t just practise receiving the ball. Practise what you do BEFORE you receive it.

🔥 THE PLAYERS THAT ARE THE GAME.

Some players play the game.
Some players change the game.

Ronaldo is the perfect example. His mentality, work ethic, desire to improve and relentless pursuit of excellence have made him one of the greatest players in football history.

For young players, the lesson is simple:

⚽ Don’t just copy what the best players do on the pitch.
🧠 Study their mentality.
💪 Learn from their work ethic.
📈 Understand what makes them different.
🎯 Then apply those lessons to your own game.

You don’t need to become the next Ronaldo.

You need to become the best version of YOU.

⚡️ DON’T JUST LAST THE 90… DOMINATE IT.

The best midfielders aren’t only technically gifted — they can still run, press, recover and make the right decisions when everyone else is tiring.

If you want to dominate the middle of the park, your endurance needs to be built with purpose.

🏃‍♂️ Build your aerobic engine
💨 Train repeated high-intensity efforts
🔄 Work on recovery between sprints
⚽️ Make your conditioning football-specific
🧠 Learn to perform when fatigue kicks in

Because being fit isn’t about running for the sake of running.

It’s about being able to make your biggest impact in the biggest moments of the game.

Train smart. Run harder. Dominate longer.

🧠 THE MINDSET OF A CHAMPION.

Talent gets you noticed.
Hard work gets you better.
But your mindset can determine how far you ultimately go.

At Target Football, we believe developing the player means developing the whole player — and that includes the ability to stay focused, confident and resilient when the pressure is at its highest.

The best players don’t just train their bodies. They train their minds.

💭 How much time are you putting into developing your mindset?

⚽️ WHY IS SCANNING SO IMPORTANT?

One of the biggest differences between good players and great players isn’t always what they do with the ball…

It’s what they do before they receive it. 👀

Look at Martin Ødegaard.

Before the ball arrives, he is constantly checking:

🔎 Where is the space?
🔎 Where is the defender?
🔎 Where is my teammate?
🔎 What can I do next?

This means that when the ball reaches him, he already has a picture in his head.

He doesn’t need to receive → stop → look → decide.

He can receive → play.

And that tiny difference can completely change the speed of your game.

💡 Try this in your next session:

Every time the ball is travelling towards you, make a conscious effort to scan over your shoulder before you receive.

Start with one scan.

Then two.

Make it a habit.

Because the best players don’t just react to the game…

They see it before it happens. 🧠⚽️

🎯 SCAN. RECEIVE. PLAY.
