Just seen this FB post……this is the Women’s League of Health and Beauty, a fitness organisation founded in 1930 by Mary Bagot Stack to promote accessible, low impact fitness for women. Her system focused on posture, alignment , balance and energy through exercise and dance.
There has been a class in New Eltham since 1944. Now known as FLexercise, the organisation is still going strong with classes in the UK, Ireland, South Africa and New Zealand, and very proud of its heritage.
Black and white knickers and blouses are no longer worn and the music has been updated but the principles of Mary Bagot Stack’s exercises and workouts remain the same.
Did you go to the classes in the past or do you know a family member who did? Would love to hear from you.
FLExercise New Eltham classes are every Monday 2-3pm at All Saints New Eltham SE9 3UT. Come along and join us, no joining fee, just pay as you go. You can be assured of a warm welcome and a great exercise class! 😃
🌳🍂Do you remember visiting Eltham Palace before it was an English Heritage site? Did you attend an event in the gardens, visit to watch a play, or perhaps camp on site with the scouts?
If so English Heritage would love to hear from you. We are holding a reminiscence day at Eltham Palace on Friday 21st August, 11:30-14:30 offering visitors an opportunity to share their memories of Eltham past.
We are working in collaboration with the University of Kent, and our dedicated team of students will be on hand to record your memories of the gardens at Eltham and fun times had there over the past 80 years. The reminiscence day is part of a wider project researching how local people have used and enjoyed the gardens at Eltham over the past two centuries. We are hoping to share all the findings in a temporary display at the Palace later in the year.
If you aren’t able to attend the event on the 21st August you can also share your memories of Eltham Palace by email to [email protected] ⛺🎭
