Get more out of your Glutes with

Here’s the first in a series of ‘how to’ videos.
And by popular demand, we’ll kick things off with the Glute Bridge.

If you don’t train glutes, you should seriously consider starting. Particularly if you sit at a desk all day or suffer from back pain. Stronger glutes support your back and enable you to lift more confidently in compound movements, like the squat! 🏋️‍♀️

✅ Feet shoulder width apart
✅ Feet under knees

This creates MORE movement in your hips, which allows for a BIGGER stretch and muscle contraction of the glutes! If your feet are a lot wider then you will work your glutes less effectively.

Feeling discomfort in your lower back?

The weight may be too heavy, you may not be engaging your core to help keep your back straight, or you may be fatigued from the set. This will result in compromising your form and over extending your back and causing lower back pain.

The next cues will enable you to maintain your form for longer, get more reps and ultimately more work out of your glutes! 🔥

✅ Tuck chin into chest
✅ Engage core and keep back straight
✅ Pivot from upper back

✅ Keep range of motion relatively short

The purpose is to keep the movement focused purely on the glutes. The moment your knees begin to track back is when you drive your hips back up and squeeze your glutes.

✅ Lose the ‘booty band’

For this, it’s more of a distraction rather than being useful. Don’t focus on creating tension in your abductors. Focus on creating maximising the tension on your glutes through movement in your hip.

Today, shares an extraordinary from his client, Anoop Patel.

9 years ago, Anoop was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

The risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes is reported to be as much as 6 times higher in South Asians than in Europeans, with a number of factors - mostly linked with lifestyle - believed to be behind this increased risk (diabetes.co.uk). Unfortunately, Diabetes affects 98% of Anoop’s mums side too, which left him with an even higher chance of developing the disease.

Anoop was told by his Doctor he had a high chance of controlling Diabetes if he became more active, made healthier choices with food and lost weight.

But these were his biggest problems, being brought up within a traditional Gujarati household with generous portions and not having the motivation to exercise.

“….We are stopping your medication with immediate effect!”

Through 1:1 personal training and lifestyle coaching, Anoop has been able to put Diabetes into remission! Anoop has dropped his average HbA1C (blood sugar level) below 42mmol/mol (6%), which is particularly important for those at a higher risk of developing diabetes.

In his journey so far, Anoop has learnt a great deal about healthy eating, regular activity and the importance of shifting his mindset and outlook in life to help him achieve what once seemed impossible to achieve.
