How propaganda works in 4 steps ( 👏)

1) Repetition Trap: Hearing lies repeatedly makes the brain mistake familiarity for truth (the “illusory truth effect”), overriding prior knowledge.

2) Engineering of Consent: Propaganda bypasses rational thought by triggering emotions like fear, outrage, and contempt rather than presenting facts.

3) Firehose of Falsehood: Flooding every channel with countless lies simultaneously overwhelms fact-checkers and destroys a shared sense of reality.

4) Identity Lock: When a belief fuses with personal identity, contradicting evidence feels like a personal attack, making the belief nearly impossible to reverse.

is the alchemy of realness 🫶

never trying to perform, but being insatiably curious.

in his own words, "i don't really see myself as an interviewer sometimes, I'm just a film fan saying hi. i'm always learning".

there's no magic formula to the art of conversation. but there's something that get close, it's what Thomas embodies.

i hope you see this mate because you're a genuine role model. and I hope you make that film :)

and folks - no idea why but my skin is awful atm. but made a promise to keep showing up.

This is so good Katie Porter 👏👏

Speaking from the ‘I’ is one of the most underrated, and underused, powerful ways of communicating.

In a different context, there was a moment I remembered where people were talking over one another. Pretty poor behaviour. Egos flying around. Loudest voices won.

And a quiet voice all of a sudden emerged and said… ‘can I ask a question?’. Followed by a pause. No filler words. No explanation. Just, can I ask a question.

It was amazing how this shifted the dynamics of the meeting. People started asking questions. People were listening. There was less talking over one another. Just because someone showed a different way.

Timeless speech by Meryl Streep that’s a message for today 👏👏👏

Aging like a fine wine this one. And unfortunately not in a good way because things have got worse.

Yes, this speech is so powerful, and needs to be elevated. But a speech is only as powerful as how it’s told.

This is a class framework that we could all learn from:

1. The hook
2. The tension
3. The stakes
4. The call to action

Give it a go!

👏👏 Aishwarya Rai 👏👏

I love how Aishwarya responded. She was in full control. She didn’t get defensiveness. She paused and reframed.

I also love the 5 words, “Can you say that again”. It’s a great way of holding up the mirror. Again, doesn’t need to be defensive. Just, can you say that again.

Saying these words often carries a deep sense of shame and vulnerability!

I love how it spoken about in this episode.

It's guarded around laughter, and lads having a conversation, but there's a lesson in this that saying 'l apologise, needs to be celebrated, not condoned.

How to get someone to open up?

Watch this 👏

In addition to my thoughts in the video, see below:

1) Anthony asked it he was going to be asked about something personal. David Marchese didn't deny, he said 'yes. Important to be up front and truthful. It signals someone is genuine and non-threatening.

2) when David said, "even though it's in the book?". It's a subtle suggestion to get Anthony to think, "yes, I have already talked about this".

3) Anthony creates his own boundaries, but then chooses to shift his boundaries, perhaps because of the way it was framed by David. Respect boundaries, you can't force or expect vulnerability.

4) David is self-deprecating by saying "I'm going to stumble my way through this". It's a statement request that says "hey, give me moment to let me articulate what I'm trying to say".

I'm sure there's more in this. But the power of pivoting, priming with permission-based questioning, and vulnerability is something we can learn here.

Britain is not broken. Here’s how to respond:

Please please read .nelson latest Substack. It’s an excellent analysis on data related to immigration, crime, public perception of safety and more.

You won’t be able to change the minds of some people. But anyone who’s up for civil discourse, ask them what evidence they have and invite a conversation around the facts.

I’m sharing this because there’s an industrial level propaganda machine sowing hate, and spreading misinformation. It’s interesting as Fraser points out, Sweden now have a ‘psychological defence unit’ to deal with foreign powers uses fake news.
