I meet so many women who are told there is nothing they can do, except hope it doesn’t get worse. Please know this isn’t the case. There are things you can do to improve it and yes potentially over time reverse it. This takes time and dedication, but it is very possible and there are more and more women out there who have made this happen. Here are my top tips for what you can do:

1. Focus on changing the pattern of movement in your core and pelvic floor. You want your pelvic floor and lower tummy muscles to contract up & in before your upper abs grip and push down. Begin releasing and relaxing your upper and mid tummy muscles and then strengthen your lower core and pelvic floor.
2. Work on breathing. Most of us don’t take deep breaths during the day so our ribcage and diaphragm get a little stuck. If we can release pressure evenly through our toros we can take pressure off the pelvic floor.
3. Work on the muscles surrounding your hips - the pelvic floor is also called the pelvic sling and the muscles around our hips set the sling in place. If the back part is pulled too tight, the front will sit looser and vice versa. If the pelvic sling is set in an optimal position, it will over time allow the connective tissue to repair.
4. Work on posture - our whole body is connected and weakness or tightness from your toes to your head will affect the pelvic sling.
5. Practice relaxing - prolapse can be a really difficult diagnosis. The result of this is often to hold tension in your pelvic floor which stops the muscle from strengthening.
6. Education - many women I speak to seem to be given a diagnosis without any information. There are so many lifestyle factors that can improve symptoms, and never lifting anything heavy ever again (impossible if you have kids) plus doing loads of pelvic floor exercises every day for the rest of your life doesn’t have to be the answer.
7. Support - I recommend anyone going through this to follow and . Both bringing awareness to prolapse and are doing amazing things for recovery.

It’s been about a year and a half since I last posted on Instagram and a lot has happened in that time. Hello little Cali.

I’ve also been working away in the background on some exciting things. Firstly I did this incredible course by pelvic health physiotherapist training to be a pregnancy and post partum corrective exercise specialist. This has allowed me to work with mums through pregnancy and into motherhood using evidence based corrective exercise to help with pelvic floor dysfunction (leaking, tightness, prolapse), diastsis recto, pelvic pain and lower back pain.

I’m now back up and running taking clients 🙌🙌🙌. Get in touch if you’re interested and would like to find out more

Finding motivation isn’t always easy, so here are my top tips for when you need a little extra:

🕺Move your body every day. The reason, routine. By making exercise something you do without too much thought or apprehension it becomes much easier to stick to. Beginning with 5, 10, 20 minutes at a time could be the perfect start. P.s. walking still counts!

🏃‍♀️Build on it. This could be 5 extra steps walking or 1 more push up. Even the smallest increments will help you get fitter. Some days it’ll be easy, other days impossible. Just remember, pick yourself up and try again the next day.

🤩 Make it fun. Start with what you enjoy and build up to the things that will be most beneficial – this will keep your interest sparked.

🥳 Focus on positives and celebrate small victories. It’s easy to think about the bad, like the muscle soreness or fatigue. Look for the benefits, and you’ll soon find your reason to keep showing up.

😀Don’t compare yourself to others. Fitness is a process, your process. It’s a commitment to yourself, so try to focus on your goals, your progress, not everyone else’s.

My terrible attempt at my push ups this morning. I have to admit, I’ve let my push up strength slip recently and it was a bit disappointing and embarrassing to get back to them and realise I’d lost quite a bit of strength.

We’re mid February, lots of people’s New Years resolutions are already falling by the wayside. So I just want to remind you, we all have setbacks. We all let our motivation slip. It’s how we deal with those moments that counts; because strength grows in the moments where you think you can’t go on, but you keep going anyway.

I know my strength will return, so my advice to anyone out there experiencing a setback is don’t let it get you down, go pack to the drawing board, come up with a new plan and go for it! Find your inner strength and your physical strength will follow💕💪

Have you ever thought about this in relation to exercise? We tend to hold long term goals for our careers, our family lives our finances. But could they be usefully for exercise too?

The truth is most of us overestimate what we can do in a short period of time, but wildly underestimate what we can achieve in years.

Bearing this in mind, take a second to think. What could you ACTUALLY achieve in 5 years?

You might not know exactly how to get there, but why not start? You could achieve something pretty amazing 😁🤸‍♀️

Have patience to undertake the long journey that is required.

Appreciate the journey itself. Undertake something difficult that you need to be feeling the rewards. Most of it is about the process. Be about the journey.

GOALS FOR GOLD

Fitness goals don’t have to be related to weight and how you look. Now of course fitness goals can be aesthetic and there’s no judgement here. But they can also be orientated around:

💪 STRENGTH
🏃‍♀️ ENDURANCE
🤸‍♀️FLEXIBILITY
🦵BALANCE
💃COORDINATION
And last but by no means least HAPPINESS 😄and CONFIDENCE 😎
