Well the sea trout weren't playing this morning but the unexpected shoal of mackerel more than made up for it, chasing shoals of sprats right into the shore where the sprats would leap out of the water en masse to escape them ! Was great to see and had some great sport chucking a spinner into the chaos !

I decided to make the best of the good weather and headed to Dunlichty trout fishery for the first visit of the year !
Tackled up with the old sage xp 7 #, 18 years old and still competes with the top end rods, loaded it up with the new rio gold floater and set up a Hulk Green fnf worm about 3ft under the indicator.🪱
Had the place to myself so I started on the top pond but after 15 mins with only a couple of missed takes it was time to change flies !
Over the next 45 mins I tried various egg and worm patterns with limited success until I put on a clown egg (white with gm12 and hot orange stripes).
The fish were hitting the egg at about 3ft and were taking it confidently, with the b**g disappearing in rapid style !
Had 6 fish in an hour before it went quiet again so I decided to try the bottom pond for the last half hour and was rewarded with another fish first cast, quickly followed by another 2 fish before I had to call it a day !
Ended up with 9 fish, all to the clown egg !
I'm glad I decided to break out the sage again after a few years in retirement, still cast like a dream, one fly rod I couldn't part with !

These eggstacy eggs with fnf chewing gum twin tails have been fishing well, the yellow and white version has been particularly successful for me the past couple of winters. 🐟🎣
