After lots of walking up big hills this summer, it’s very nice to be home to some great weather and finally pull on the arms! A fun couple of trad routes mixed in with some good sport climbing.

Photos of Devil Dries Out E5 6a** — really good climbing in an amazing position. Old fixed gear, hollow rock and weak arms made this a bit of a character-building experience. Calum summed it up perfectly: “Jack, you now have lots of character.” 🤣 I’ll have to come back for a clean lead on that one… or maybe not!

Also got to enjoy Lucky Devil E5 6a**, a nice new route by Cal. Thanks for the amazing shots Jethro Kiernan photography

The other shots are Right Wall E5 6a***. I’ve put off doing this for the last eight years, mostly through fear of blowing the onsight on such a classic. Really, you just have to get on these routes — it turned out to be super steady compared to what I’d built up in my head. A very memorable evening with glorious light in the Pass and constant banter from Pavitt!

God, it’s good to be home!

I’ve been out in the Alps a lot this summer working, but Emlyn, Matt and Henry have been out enjoying the brilliant Welsh weather with our guests.

Big mountain routes, sunny sea cliffs and plenty of instructional courses — it’s been a great summer in Wales!

I’ve got some availability this autumn for guiding and instruction. It’s often a brilliant time to be out, with the mountains and cliffs a lot quieter.

Fancy getting out? Send me a DM 🙌

We finished our trip last week by heading up into the magical cirque of the Engelhörner (Angel Peaks) to climb the Kingspitze NO-Wand - which IFMGA Mountain Guide in Switzerland described as a grand course for people on holiday. A truly epic finale to a week of immaculate rock - and relentless banter.

Alpine cragging on the Eiger. Amazing rock, big runouts, and you can really feel the energy (and fear?) of being on the North Face. What a place!

Cassin round two this summer with Dan, Tom and Kiran this time. 800 metres of pure class rock climbing and one of the six classic north faces of the alps, that will never get old!

Changing plans on a Mont Blanc week last month. Warm temperatures and stormy weather meant leaving Chamonix after a couple of days at the Torino Hut (home to some of the squeakiest beds going!).

With the forecast looking much better over the border, we escaped to Switzerland and climbed the SE Ridge of the Weissmies. A great effort from the team to make the most of a changing forecast and come away with an awesome summit.

I’ve been enjoying a bit of a mid season break back at home in Wales!

I had a couple of great days with Kev, Gabi and Eoin climbing the Dri Horlini and Portjengrat S Ridge. Fantastic rocky alpinism, in a beautiful location!

Working for Kev Avery - Mountain Guide, thanks for having me along. Super fun!

Dream gig with Calum, Tom and John climbing the Cassin on the Piz Badile. Good effort from Tom & John after tired legs from the Biancograt the days before, the grunts got louder the higher we climbed. Well deserved pizza and beer back in the valley. Awesome!

Thanks again for having me and good to have the South Walians outnumbering you haha!

Heading up the Biancograt on the Piz Bernina with Tom, John and Callum last week. Chunky day with heading down to the valley but got us set up to climb the Cassin right after. Epic!

Thanks for having me along!
