Remember - it is NOT ok to light a fire or use a disposable bbq in the countryside - dry heather, bracken or even grasses are very effective fire hazards!!

Lambing season is nearly here, some have already started. When using public footpaths you will see lambs snoozing and no mother nearby. She knows where they are . No need to do anything unless visible injury or trauma.
If you see a sheep on her back by all means intervene and put her the right way up. You could potentially save her life and the lives of her unborn lambs. Give young lambs a wide berth as they often follow moving objects that aren't their mother.
You will see farmers working in the field with their dogs, long hours, lack of sleep and quite often a short fuse.
Keep your dogs on a lead, pick up your dog p**p and take it home. Enjoy the countryside responsibly. You never know you might even see the next Wales bobsleigh team training while you are on a walk πŸ™‚

This page is to give information on walks run by the Oswestry Ramblers Group. We are a friendly group and welcome new adult members of all ages. We run a varied programme of walks throughout the year. We're sorry, we don't allow dogs on our walks.

**Llanfyllin** (SY225BX-centre)
From the free public car park by SPAR take a left into the centre. Don’t cross the road & you will come to Cain Valley Hotel - Llanfyllin (with Something Tasty cafe, Llanfyllin opposite - both recommended for food!).
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈTurn left at the far side of The Cain. Walk down the road over the bridge & a large red chapel will be in front of you.
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈCross the road to the chapel, keep to the right of it following the pavement up the ford.
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈUp the hill, through the gate, over the field & through another gate on to a tarmacked road. **CLOSE ALL GATES** Follow the road until you get to an unmarked t-junction & either
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈ(a) nearly double back to the right, back to the main road, turn right & walk back to the centre (making an approx 2mile walk)
OR
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈ(b) keep straight on & choose your own right turn (footpath or road) to go past the Llanfyllin Workhouse back on to the main road (with pavement), turning right to come back into town (3-5mile depending!).

Around the top at Efail Rhyd.
We parked at the top of Trewern bank (crossroads). Keep walking straight (mostly down hill), first right slow steady climb until you can turn right again. Uphill back to the crossroads.
This could be made into various other longer walks (1) starting from the village would add another 2.5-3 mile (2) instead of the 2nd right keep going down until you meet the main road, turn right
See map in comments
Quite a few variations πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

*Reversible route
**see notes at bottom
Leave the village (1)up the hill past The Hand, bear right & down at the top. Left at the bottom at the main road. Passed the buses, first left. Along & up, first left (2). Climb up a while & turn left (3)into a farm go through the farm & down. Keep watch for the path on your right -‼️ dodgy handrail - go down the path (loose) across the stream (passable in shoes), straight over the fields towards the houses (2 squidgy parts). Through the gate & left. Follow this road & bear right at the sweeping corner (actually keeping on the road) & back down into the village.

(1) you could just walk straight down passed the school.
(2) for a longer walk keep on a little way therefore taking your 2nd left, the left at the crossroads & down (eventually) into the village.
(3) keep on here & take the left at the crossroads which will take you back to Llanrhaeadr (we did the field today because of possible ice).
