The S-bend on the Lower Tummel — what’s the trick? 🛶

I've had a lot of people asking about this.

For anyone who’s paddled the Lower Tummel in Scotland, you’ll know the S-bend I mean.

It’s one of those sections that looks like an impossible puzzle from the bank, but getting a canoe through cleanly requires a very particular manoeuvre.

The combination of the changing line, current and boat length makes it surprisingly awkward — especially if you’re trying to keep the canoe going forwards.

The key is working as a team having someone catch your boat and then spin you around.

I’m curious what technique other paddlers use here. Has anyone tried going down half of it forwards and half of it backwards?
