Brands Hatch Roundup π
Firstly I want to thank the G.R.Racing Team for the repairs they did on both cars this weekend. The team worked tirelessly carrying out a full gearbox strip on one car and chassis repair on the other. Neither car would have been able to make the grid without these two extensive repairs.
Qualifying - A difficult session saved at the end by a very fortunate tow. 6th for race 1 and 3rd for race 2 with two identical lap times.
Race 1 - A great start gaining 2 places, it instantly became evident that something was wrong, dropping back through the field with mysterious handing characteristics. Was about to retire the car then the safety car came out. 2 racing laps at the end were interesting with the steering wheel in the 3 oclock position to drive straight, although it was wandering. The car was great at turning left but not right, which on a clockwise circuit was difficult. Each time I applied the brakes, the car sharply veered left. The damaged chassis (not caused by any contact) managed to hold on until the chequered flag and we held on for 9th place.
Race 2 - Came down to a final lap shootout as the safety car pulled in. In 2nd place, managed to time the restart just right and challenge for the lead into Paddock Hill Bend. Was unable to find a way around the outside of Paddock Hill or Druids. As I attacked the kerbs at Graham Hill the car jumped out of gear causing me to lose a handful of places, eventually 6th at the chequered flag.
Disappointed that the results didnt show a true reflection of the pace we had this weekend. This is all part of motor racing. I just wish I could have given the team the results they deserved as some payback for the immensely hard work they put in.
