On Saturday a number of adult and junior club members took part in an Invitational event between players from both Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire Chess clubs held in Narberth. There was a hard fought 14 board match for adults which ended in a 7 all draw. Over the last year a number of new clubs have been set up in South West Wales and many of these clubs had players representing these teams. White Knights had 8 players playing in the adult Carmarthenshire team and there were wins for Matthew, Jason, Mark and Stewart. There was also a 13 board match for the juniors and 12 of the team were White Knights members. Well done all for your efforts and we would like to thank Narberth Chess Club and particularly Kevin Heady for organising this great event. We even had the chess robot Rook D2 present which the juniors loved.

What an amazing day it has been for the club. Firstly can I congratulate both the D team and B team on winning their final league games of the season. I would also like to congratulate the B team on winning the Division 1 Plate competition. Well done to all concerned.

Despite hosting two league matches tonight it was great to see another 29 players turn up for a club night. Can I thank some of our more experienced players for giving up some of their time to help some of our less experienced players.

We also held a junior competition and Bobi, Layla, Poppy and Asad qualified for the semi finals and Bobi beat Poppy in the final. Well done Bobi and to everyone else for the competitive games played.

It was also an exciting day for our Carmarthenshire Chess Academy today in that we signed up Bryngwyn Comprehensive School as our 9th school to participate in the Academy. We attended their lunchtime chess club today and they had approximately 20 pupils and even two teachers who came to listen to our demonstration. We are looking forward to working with them over the coming months.

Keep up the good work everyone as its fantastic to see such a great environment in the club.

I would also like to promote an event our friends from Fishguard chess club are hosting this Saturday. A 7 round rapid tournament will be held in Fishguard Town Hall. Anyone wanting more information about the event can contact the organisers on www.fishguardchess.co.uk/rapidplay/

Hi all considering it was Easter week and we had a D team match in Upper Killay it was great to see 21 members attend tonight's club night. Firstly can I thank Adam, Chris, James and John for spending time with some of our less experienced members. I'm sure they all found it really useful for their chess development. For our remaining junior players we held an Easter team based competition. We had three teams of 4 named JETA, Hey Ya and the Rooks. They played 2 rounds of games against each other and after some competitive games , the Rooks consisting of Poppy, Paul, Luca and Matteo won the competition with 6 points. Three players Paul, Poppy and Elijah won both their games and then played off against each other for player of the tournament and Paul was successful winning all 4 of his games. We then held an Easter puzzle competition and this was won by Cynan. All winners had Easter eggs as prizes. Well done to all the players for their efforts tonight.

It has been an excellent day for the Carmarthenshire Chess Academy. This morning we signed up our 4th comprehensive school and 9th school to the Academy. We will start working with the chess club in Bryngwyn School after their Easter holidays. We will also start to organise some inter school matches in the new term. We recently presented Coedcae School with their Academy participation certificate as per the picture below.
We have also visited the chess clubs at both Coedcae school and Old Road primary school today and I was delighted that White Knights Chess Club member Matteo who is a pupil at Old Road School passed the bronze level of the Academy's Achievement Programme. Whilst Matteo will get his certificate at the next club meeting we did present another Old Road pupil Nathan with his Bronze level achievement certificate which he passed at the last club meeting. Well done both.

Well its been a really successful weekend for White Knights players in this weekends Congress in Cardiff. Firstly Bill Hewitt had a great open tournament finishing on 3.5 points undefeated. Josh finished on 3 points in his first ever competition in the major. However the best news of all is that White Knights has a Welsh Chess Champion. Cynan playing his first ever graded competition won 3 games and drew 2 to finish joint first in the Welsh Under 11 Championships on 4 points. An absolutely amazing achievement Cynan. We are all so proud of u. Cyflawniad gwych dros ben Cynan. Google translate is amazing and hopefully i got that right.

Another fantastic evening tonight at the chess club. Firstly we had our B team playing our C team and these games were incredibly hard fought. We also welcomed the Pembrokeshire juniors team for a repeat match to our pre xmas visit to Milford Haven. Thanks so much to Martin Jones for bringing the Pembrokeshire team to Llanelli. They brought 9 players to the club and we shared games out between 13 of our juniors. Can I thank everyone for turning up at 6pm for this match and for everyone's efforts tonight. Standout performances tonight came from Cynan and Kai who both were undefeated in their games and Pranita and Elijah for winning their first games for the club. Paul and Bobi also won good games. Well done all for the chess played tonight. We also welcomed Oliver to the club for the first time. Seeing so many people attend the club every week is amazing and our repetition is growing as tonight we were paid a visit by the Director of Junior Chess for Wales Ian Eustis. He complemented us on the environment we are developing. Credit goes to everyone one of us. Keep up the great work guys.

When we set up Carmarthenshire Chess Academy in September 2025 we developed an achievement programme for children. This achievement programme has 4 levels starting with a bronze level, moving through silver and gold levels to a diamond levels. We now work with 5 primary schools and 3 comprehensive schools and many of these chess club members are very much chess beginners. We have been helping them develop their chess skills and yesterday it was with huge pleasure that we awarded the first ever Carmarthenshire Chess Academy Bronze Achievement Award to Swiss Valley Primary School pupil and White Knights Chess Club member Paul O Gara. Well done Paul. U did fab.

What an amazing night we had in the Chess Club this evening. Even with our C team and D team having league matches we still had nearly 20 members attend the club night.

Tonight we did a 20 minute demonstration on chess calculation and then set our juniors a chess puzzle challenge of solving 10 chess puzzles. I would like to thank all the members for their efforts. U all did brilliantly.

Our D team did really well in their league match gainst a much more experienced and higher rated team from Upper Killay. James Evans had a brilliant win and Mike and Kai battled hard for draws. Unfortunately the game was lost 3 2 but well done all.

Tonight at the chess club we welcomed a junior team from Castlenedd chess club. It was a great opportunity for our juniors to play against players from another club with similar experience.

It was amazing to see so many people attend the club and there were some incredibly competitive games. Special mention must go to Bobi, Cynan and Poppy who won all of their games.

Thanks must go to Hywel from Castlenedd for agreeing to this match.

Over the last month we have welcomed a number of new players to the club and this continues to help the club grow. Thanks must go to some of our experienced club members for giving up some of their time to help the juniors develop. We have also introduced some of our juniors to league chess and they have all done incredibly well so far.

Well done everyone.
