Hammer(s) blow restricts Llechryd to a Single(ton)....

Llechryd hit the road to fulfill their rearranged fixture with Penrhiwllan Bowls Club tonight and came very close to sharing the points.

In a much changed line-up from that which played at Capel Dewi 24 hours earlier, same players, different positions, Llechryd were optimistic for what lay ahead.

That optimism was soon put to the test in the singles. Llechryd captain Andrew, 2-0 down then 3-2 up against the evergreen Paul Hoad, then went 6 ends without scoring as Paul opened up a 10 shot lead with a combination of dead weight draws and a couple of weighted efforts thrown in for good measure. Andrew took the last 3 ends to bring a touch of respectability to the scoreline but the damage had already been done. Paul winning by 13-10.
The Llechryd pair of Simon and Myra took the first four ends against Steve and Alison to lead 7-0. Penrhiwllan brought it back to 7-3, before Llechryd took it to 11-3. Singles on each of the last three ends weren't enough to prevent Llechryd taking the victory 11-6.

The home, away scoring pattern from their last match saw Llechryd's triples of Steve, Rob and Elaine 4-4 after four ends against Sue, club captain Carole and Paul Davis. Penrhiwllan went into the final end with a 1 shot lead and managed to net a further 2 to win by 11-8.
Llechryd's four of Anne, Dai, Tricia and Pauline restricted the home quartet of Lynne, Finley, Andrea and Paul Singleton to only 3 scoring ends but it was enough for the home team to eke out a draw with the final delivery of the evening. 4-2 up after five ends, 'Llan then bagged a 3 to lead 7-2. Llechryd painstakingly inched their way back to trail 7-6 going into the final end. Holding the 2 they needed to complete the fightback, and the path to the jack seemingly blocked off on both hands, Paul S went heavy and did enough to push 1 of the holding woods away, Llechryd having to be content with a 7-7 draw.

Threesy does it....

After three successive 6-2 defeats, Llechryd went one better tonight in only losing 5-3 at Capel Dewi Short Mat Bowls.

In the singles, Dai went up against wily veteran Gerwyn. The scoring went home, away, home, away for the first 6 ends, Gerwyn leading by 10-6 before he went 8 shots clear. Dai banked 3 more shots but was unable to close any further going down 15-9

This week's pairing of Anne and Myra went up against the Siôn a Siân of Cardiganshire Short Mat Bowling Association, Rob and Sally Davies. The home, away theme continued, with the first 6 ends being shared 5-5. Llechryd went through a 3 end barren spell during which the Davies' moved to lead 10-5. The final three ends resulted in only 3 further scoring shots, Capel Dewi taking the contest 11-7

The second half served up two very tight match ups.
The Llechryd 3 of Simon, Tricia and Pauline led 4-0 after 3 ends before the home side, Gwenda, Jen and Delyth, brought it back to 4-3 at the half way mark. A haul of 4 on the 7th end put Capel Dewi ahead for the first time. Going into the last end behind by 1, Llechryd managed to sneak a shot to make the final score 8-8

The Llechryd 4 of Steve, Rob, Andrew and Elaine very nearly threw away a 3 shot lead on the last end of their battle with Hannah, Nigel, Mark and Helen. With Capel Dewi holding 2, Helen, standing in as skip in the absence of club captain Glanmor, sent the final bowl on it's way. It clipped the jack but stopped just beyond Llechryd's nearest wood to ensure an away win by 10-9. Not the only reprieve the visiting 4 had during the course of the evening!

The more things change, the more they stay the same......or in plain speak, Llechryd lose. 6-2. Again.

After an early season postponement, Rhydlewis short mat bowls club were the first visitors to Llechryd Coracle Hall this season, and like so many times before, left with the win under their belt, a result that moves them ominously to the top of the table.

Dai went up against the versatile Wyn Davies in the singles and lost 17-6. Dai's only highlight was a full house on the 7th end.
Llechryd's 2pts this week came in the pairs. Simon and Pauline coming back from 5-0 down after 2 ends to only concede a further 2 shots on their way to a very well deserved 16-7 victory against Keelee and Dylan. Dylan won a bottle of prosecco in the after match raffle although the jury is still out on whether he's old enough to drink it!!

The home trio of Anne, Tricia and Myra went the distance against Daniel, Kieran and Dafydd. Dropping 5 on the first end, Llechryd started to build up a head of steam, 11-7 up with 3 ends to play, they conceded a further 7 shots and were unable to get the 4 they needed from the final end. Rhydlewis the victors by 14-13.
The rinks was over as a contest well before the halfway mark, the Rhydlewis quartet of Ffion, Richard, Paul and Ceri 11-1 up against Steve Rob, Andrew and Elaine. Ceri's 4 not really breaking sweat on their way to a 17-5 win.

Llechryd floored at Caerwedros....

Llechryd Short Mat Bowls Club fell to their second 6-2 defeat in succession last night, and in doing so, replaced Caerwedros Short Mat Bowls Club at the foot of the table. With more swing than the first day of an Ashes test, Llechryd failed to get a grasp of the mats handing Caerwedros their first win of the season.

Dai took on captain Harry Harrison in the singles and after 4 ends of toing and froing pulled away to record Llechryd's only success of the evening, winning by 16-7
The pairing of Anne and Myra went 2-1 up after the second end against Irene and Cliff Wilson but then had a front row seat as the Caerwedros pair piled on the shots to run out 22-3 winners, not scoring again until the final end.

In the 2nd half, it was more of the same for Llechryd...
The triples of Simon, Tricia and Pauline went down 14-5 at the hands of Barry, Pat and Roy, the Caerwedros trio never behind in their contest.
In the rinks, the Llechryd 4 of Steve Rob, Andrew and Elaine looked to be in control when 5-0 up after 3 ends. But then Caerwedros' foursome of Jane, Sue & Don Chalmers and Sue Davies started to find both line and length to overhaul the Llechryd lead, and despite dropping 2 on the final end held on to record an 11-9 victory.

Llechryd Short Mat Bowls Club travelled the short distance to Clwb Bowlio Llandygwydd tonight for their first match of the season.

In the singles, Dai Farmer went into a 4-1 lead after 5 ends against Darren Davies. Despite scoring on 7 of the 12 ends, Dai was unable to prevent Darren taking the win, thanks in large to a run of 9 shots in 3 ends to go 10-4 up. Dai fought back valiantly and was only 1 shot down going into the final end. Darren took a single to end up the victor by 11-9.
The pairs also went the way of Llandygwydd, captain Elin and Meurig taking the spoils by 12-10 against Simon and Pauline.

In the 2nd half, the Llechryd trio of Anne, Myra and Alan were holding their own against the experienced John Davies. 6-5 down with 2 ends to play, Llandygwydd turned things around scoring 4 shots to take the win by 9-6

The only bright spot for Llechryd came in the rinks.
Steve, Rob, Andrew and skip Elaine taking the 2 points with an 11-4 victory against Mother and daughter duo Jess and Nicky, Teifi and skip Sam. The margin of victory could have been much heavier, Llechryd holding 5 shots on a number of occasions before Sam either drew to cut them down or sneak a single.

All in all a positive experience despite the defeat.

"It's the hope that kills you"

Llechryd Short Mat Bowls Club travelled to Penrhiwllan Bowls Club tonight to play their final friendly before the league starts later this month.

Going into the final end in the first round of games, Llechryd held the lead on 2 mats while drawing on the 3rd, Penrhiwllan turned things around and took all 3 mats, ahead for the first time all evening.

Swapping players around in the second round of games, Llechryd won 2 out of the 3 mats while going down heavily on the 3rd to give Penrhiwllan an overall win by 52-48.

An enjoyable evening, with thanks to Carole for organising.
