A hat trick for Ronnie Richard’s as his Llandudno u13’s ran riot this weekend!

Personally, this summer has been great to see Ronnie up close. A lovely left foot, extremely skilful and great quick feet. A regular on the intensive courses and trained alongside my grassroots u14’s.

A real talent for Llandudno FC and look forward to seeing him progress throughout the season.

Face of the future with no fear to the face coming to an end.

As I play in my 22nd season, more than ever I’ve started to look back at where it all began.

At the age of 18, I had already made my football league debut, scored my first league goal and had started my journey as a professional footballer. After a man of the match performance versus Holland for Wales and the words of Ian rush ringing in my ears “Marc you will be worth millions”

A call up to the Welsh under 21’s capped with a brace against Israel and I was now on the map. The magazine I grew up buying every month ‘FourFourTwo’ published this article and there I was…. Living the dream.

The confidence grew, the hype gave me an ego, the results gave me a drive to want more. 17 goals in 21 games for Wrexham under Dean Saunders gave me the platform… until disaster struck on February 28th 2009.

At 38, I now have the insight, knowledge, experience to be able to cope with the pressures and demands of professional sport. Unfortunately, it’s too late. I wish the young Marc Williams in the magazine was equipped ready to face professional sport and I genuinely believe the outcome may have been different.

Today, I’m privileged to share my story and experiences in dressing rooms all over the world.

I’ve chased the highs my whole career and unfortunately hit some excruciating lows. My highs now come from watching young talent improve, develop and build confidence that they didn’t realise existed.

My coaching is a release, my safe place with no politics or opinions. I watch players laugh, smile, work hard and dream of one day reaching the top. We celebrate big moments together, little break throughs and there’s certainly something special about that.

My coaching has never been about one session or a quick fix. My passion comes from giving all my experience and expertise of what I’ve lived, been exposed too and give these young players the understanding of what ultimately,it takes to thrive in the game. For me it’s always about the journey and process and the constant development.

Today, I would like to wish Emily Howson all the best on her next chapter of her journey. Starting a two year contract with Liverpool U21’s PGA.

I first coached Emily at 6 years old in a summer club. The start of learning all the transferable skills in sports. Emily then was a regular for her 121’s learning the specifics of her game.

Over the years, the journey has developed to coaching Emily in pre season, sessions to build confidence and analysing international matches to give her constructive feedback to improve her game.

With 30 caps across all junior age groups for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and a bright future, she still has time to come and support myself on the pitch and that to me is everything about why I do what I do.

Keep smashing it Emily and making everyone proud in North Wales 💪👊

⚽️ Turning feedback into a positive ⚽️

So many athletes struggle with criticism and I often see children really struggle with being told if something is wrong or how they then can improve. The truth is you can only improve and be successful if you don’t take criticism personal.

Torrin was unsuccessful in a couple of academy trials but received some great feedback that allowed him to put something in place to improve for next time. The biggest feedback was to gain the edge as a goalkeeper he had to improve his footwork.

All summer Torrin has attended Intensive courses and played as an outfield player developing his ball control, passing, agility and movement.

During our 121’s we have incorporated this around specifics for being a goal keeper. Coming off his line, pass accuracy, changing direction and striking a ball.

Torrin has recently been selected to now play for Colwyn Bay Academy u14’s ( a year up) with the coach praising Torrin’s confident footwork.

Hard work does pay off but the world of instant gratification makes people stop in the tougher moments.

It’s all about the process and Torrin… you smashed it 👏👏👏
