I was busy last week learning more about the Pelvic Floor πŸ˜€ The Pelvic floor is so much more than just the Pelvic Floor, it's breathing, the core, posture, thoracic mobility, diet etc. Pilates exercises can really help activate, relax and strengthen the pelvic floor πŸ™ŒπŸ«Ά

PILATES for PERI, MENOPAUSE and POST MENOPAUSE

MONDAY 11.00am. THURSDAY 6.30pm. THURSDAY 7.30pm.

Invest in yourself and focus on your future health & wellbeing.
Exercise is an important component of health and wellbeing at any age; however, it may be especially beneficial from peri through to post menopause.
Pilates exercises are effective for all the components that a woman needs to concentrate on for this time of her life.
Support Your Body the Pilates way.
Low impact exercises will nourish and support your body through the menopause and beyond.
The exercises are slow and controlled for a mind-body connection which helps you to focus on movement, reducing risk of injury to vulnerable joints at this stage of life because of depleting hormones.
Cortisol levels increase during menopause and peri menopause, to help combat this, we work with relaxation and mindfulness to calm down the nervous system to help you unwind.
Pilates Benefits: Bone health Core stability Pelvic Floor Health Balance Posture Mobility Muscle strength Improved Mood De-stress

Loved this course 'Mindfulness and Pilates'

I have tried mindfulness and meditation many times over the years and have always struggled with it. Revisiting Mindfulness as part of my 'Pilates for the Menopause' CPD course I finally 'got it'. I felt the benefit immediately and wanted to learn more so completed a 'Meditation Teacher Training' course which then led me on to the 'Mindfulness and Pilates' CPD course.

All we seek to do in our Mindfulness practice is to be present, intentionally, without judgment. A Pilates class is an ideal place for participants to start to learn how to do this, as our bodies can only ever exist in the present. It is our mind that pulls, tugs and pushes us in various directions, past and future. With practice we can learn to be more present, the body is a key ally in this.

I can honestly say that since practicing meditation consistently and using my Pilates practice as a way to bring my mind and body together I feel healthier and happier at 54 than I did at 50. I feel calmer, my blood pressure and heart rate is lower, my IBS symptoms have settled and I feel able to step back from thoughts and experiences to allow myself time to respond rather than react in a habitual way!

A consistent mindfulness practice has been scientifically proven to improve health & wellbeing for almost everyone! Mindfulness is a skill, so like learning a new sport or musical instrument it is something that we can get better at with practice. I am loving my own journey and happy to be able to introduce mindfulness and meditation to pilates class participants too πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ§˜

We have limited space in our β€˜Men’s stretch’ class Thursday @ 5.30 pm and β€˜Pilates for the Menopause’ class Thursday @ 7.30 pm. Both classes finish with a short mindfulness meditation practice. For more information telephone Peak Physio & Fitness 01492 338262

Be kind to your mind - taking a moment to breathe brings us into the present moment. When the mind is calm and focused in the present it is neither reacting to memories from the past, nor preoccupied with plans for the future, two sources of stress known to impact health.

Meditation has been shown to reduce levels of stress significantly. When we are stressed we find it hard to relax because our minds are full of anxious thoughts and are bodies are filled with adrenaline and cortisol, the stress hormones. Meditation helps us to become more relaxed. When we start a meditation practice, the first benefit is that we become much more aware of what is going on in our bodies and our minds. We find space in our lives to sit and be still. It is not easy at first, but gradually we learn to unwind and let go of stress from the mind and tension from the body.

At the end of our 'Pilates for the Menopause' classes Peak Physio & Fitness we practice a short meditation to enhance relaxation and improve wellbeing.

We have some spaces in our classes, if you would like to join us please ring Peak Physio & Fitness on 01492 338262 for class times and availability 😊

Yay!! My meditation teacher training coursework is complete and submitted - 9 days early!! πŸ˜…

It's been such a great course, hard going at times due to the volume of coursework, but so worthwhile to do ☺

I have learnt about and practised the different types and techniques of meditation and researched scientific evidence that supports the benefits of a meditation practice πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ§˜

New offerings for meditation sessions live online and on demand coming soonπŸ˜€

It's so good to have my weekends back πŸ™‚- I think the dog is happy too 🐾🌳😊

World Heart Health Day πŸ’“
The American Heart Associations recommendations for Physical Activity in adults is at least:
πŸ’“150 mins (2.5 hours) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 mins per week of vigorous aerobic activity, or a combination of both, preferably spread throughout the week.
πŸ’“Moderate to high intensity muscle strengthening activity on at least 2 days per week
πŸ’“ Spend less time sitting. Even light-intensity activity can offset some of the risks of being sedentary.

Other ways to optimize heart health πŸ’“

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ§˜ Meditation has been scientifically proven to dramatically decrease heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, keeping your blood pressure within acceptable ranges can keep you healthier longer. πŸ’“

Eat Better πŸ₯‘πŸ†
Aim for an overall healthy eating pattern that includes whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, nuts, seeds, and cooking in non-tropical oils such as olive oil.

Get Healthy Sleep πŸ’€
Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Adequate sleep promotes healing, improves brain function and reduces the risk for chronic diseases.

It's not easy to fit in the recommendations for exercise whilst juggling the busyness of modern life πŸ˜… Doing what we can, when we can is a step in the right direction πŸ’“πŸ˜Š
