🏆 Club Success

Since its formation in 1988, the Mid and West Wales Bowls Club has enjoyed many successes in competitions across the UK.

The club attended its first Four Nations competition in Great Yarmouth in 1989, with seven members from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service proudly representing Wales.

Over the past 36 years, the club has achieved remarkable results, winning:
🥇Overall Captain’s Cup on nine occasions
🥇Wales Singles on seven occasions
🥇Wales Pairs on twelve occasions
🥇Triples on eleven occasions
🥇Fours on eight occasions

The Four Nations tournament was first hosted in Wales in 1992 at Parc Howard Bowling Club, Llanelli, and has since been held at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club every four years - a total of seven times to date.

The Bowls Section was first formed in 1988 under the Powys Sports and Athletics Association (SAA). In the mid-1990s, it became part of the Dyfed/Powys SAA, before finally establishing itself as part of the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Sports and Social Club in 1998.

The MAWWFRS Bowls Section Constitution was formally agreed on 30 April 1999, with Eddie Williams, former Sub Officer in charge of the retained crew at Llandrindod Wells Station, appointed as the Club Secretary. Eddie still holds a copy of the minutes from the first Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Brigade Headquarters on 1 May 1998, and continues to serve as the Bowls Section Secretary to this day, despite having since retired from the Service.👏

The Bowls Club not only brings together a community of people who share a passion for the sport, but also proudly represents the Service in various competitions, including the prestigious Four Nations Tournament.

The countdown is on!⏲️

In September 2026, the Four Nations Bowls Competition will return to Wales, hosted once again at the Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club - the proud home of the event every four years since 1996.

This exciting three-day tournament will bring together teams from Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland, who will compete for top honours in a weekend of skill, teamwork, and camaraderie.

It promises to be another fantastic celebration of the sport - and an incredible opportunity for MAWWFRS members to represent our Service on home ground!💪🔥
