Our u11s hosted the giants of 11s cricket, league leaders Carmarthen this week. With a big crowd of 40 in attendance, the game was delayed for 1 minute to get everyone seated.
The Hickmans were still recovering from frostbite from last week, so other family members were in attendance.
Carmarthen won the toss and decided to bat. The opening bowler for Llandeilo was speedy Lewys, he had the Carmarthen openers shaking in their boots.
It wasn’t long before he had a wicket. Twm gruffydd on the other side backed up with tidy figures.
The star of the day was Cato the Cat Davies, getting 4 wickets and putting Llandeilo in a strong position to give Llandeilo a chance against the Harlem Globetrotters.
Good bowling from Lewis Hickman , who had 2 wickets and Dyfan Williams taking 1 ( His father celebrated like he’d won the lottery) Llandeilo kept Carmarthen to 85 runs.
In to the changing rooms we went and the team was in good spirits about the 10 wickets they had taken.
Time to go out and chase the runs needed.
A Mexican wave started in the crowd as the players walked out.
Some solid cricket from the opening pair of Rhydian Jones and Cato Davies put Llandeilo on the front foot . Some good batting in the other 3 pairs moved the score along but a couple of wickets left a lot to do for the final pair.
Lewys and Twm hit a couple of 4s but fell short of the target by 37 runs and a well deserved win for Carmarthen.
A enjoyable evening, played in the right manner.
Next game is Drefach home

☀️On a sunny evening Llandeilo’s U13’s travelled down to Carmarthen.
After loosing the toss Llandeilo were put into bowl.
This did not faze our team as Lewys Rees Davies took a wicket in the second over, after that the wickets kept falling, with Joseff Davies, Lewis James, Dylan Sizmur, Nyla and Cato Davies all taking a wicket each and Henri Marks also getting a maiden.
Charlie King-Cooke and Shiloh Fielder-Hobbs kept it tight in the field with Henri Lloyd Davies stopping the ball behind the stumps with lightening fast reactions. A special mention goes to Cato Davies, for not only stepping up to help the U13’s but by getting 2 run outs by throwing the ball in from the field.
After some great bowling Llandeilo managed to stop Carmarthen who ran brilliantly and got to a net figure of 277.

With a hefty target in sight Llandeilo had to bat with intent.🏏
Our first pair stepped up and with some great running between the wickets managed to score a boundary each, with further boundaries found by Nyla Davies, Dylan Sizmur, Henri Marks and a great partnership from Joseff Davies and Lewys Rees Davies (27) total including 2 boundaries from Lewys who also played up an age group tonight.

⭐️Llandeilo finished on a net score of 288.🙌🏻

Many thanks to Carmarthenshire for hosting, Shem for scoring and Carl and Kayley for umpiring.
Llandeilo go again next week against Ammanford.

On Sunday the Red Kites, fielded a second team in the South Wales Softball League for the first time. The aim for the seconds is to make sure everyone gets a chance to play, practise and learn about the game, and most importantly have fun.

A few more experienced players were joined by 2 returners and 3 debutantes including one who'd only started playing a couple of weeks ago.

Our first opponents were Skewen who put us in to bat, and Kerina got us off to a great start with a boundary off the first ball. It was a steep learning curve for our newbies though with Skewen bowling well, limiting the runs and taking their catches and run outs clinically. Everybody batted well running quick singles wherever they could and Elen and Alys also scored boundaries.

Going into field with a low total to defend was always going to be a difficult task. But we put that to one side and concentrated on working as a team, supporting each other and practising our bowling and fielding skills. Cerys and Beca making their debuts were a revelation, Beca taking a wicket in her very first over, with Sh*tal taking a great catch at close range. Elen put in sterling work behind the wicket, Kerina took a bowled wicket and Alys, Sh*tal and Charlotte each bowled accurate low scoring overs. In the end though Skewen's batters found several boundaries and they finished well ahead.

Pleased with our team performance though, and with the sun now beating down on Skewen's hilltop ground, we went straight back in to bat against Maesteg for our second game.

Already improvements were showing. Kerina again started well with 2 boundaries and with Beca also scoring her first 4. Caryn and Alys combined well, another boundary for Alys with a very long awaited boundary finally!! for Caryn. Katie, coming in as a returner for her first game, immediately found the boundary 3 times, ably supported by Charlotte.

Into the field for the second time, our newbies were champing at the bit to demonstrate their progress. Cerys bowled with style and pace, rewarded by a catch behind the stumps by Kerina. Katie impressed immediately, taking a tricky catch off her own bowling and Beca bowled with power and accuracy. Charlotte also bowled well, with Sh*tal and Kerina working together for a quick thinking run out in her over. Alys supported with consistent pacy bowling and Katie and Cerys defended the boundaries energetically.

Our run total was eventually overhauled by some big hitting by the Maesteg batters but by a much smaller margin. We left the field hot but in high spirits, feeling that we'd come together well as a team, gained a lot of individual confidence and had a really good day.

Thanks to Skewen for the warm welcome, to both Skewen and Maesteg for the enjoyable games, and for umpiring and scoring. Thanks to Charlie for standing square leg for us, and a big thank you to Rhian for assisting with scoring and being our biggest supporter. Hardest task of the day? Writing this report, so thanks to all who helped with that too 😂

Roll on our next games in two weeks time!

Double Delight for Llandeilo Red Kites in Sunny Aberystwyth

On a beautiful, sunny Sunday, the Llandeilo Red Kites made the long journey north to Aberystwyth for a thrilling double-header.

Game 1: Red Kites vs. Bronwydd
Put into bowl first, Llandeilo found themselves in unfamiliar territory. However, the bowling attack refused to be fazed. Kayley set the tone immediately, tearing through the opposition to claim two wickets in the very first over. Anjuli followed suit with another wicket in the third, and a sharp run-out handed the Red Kites a dream start.
While Sharon and Emily kept things incredibly tight with some economical bowling, the Bronwydd batters dug in and refused to give their wickets away easily. Behind the stumps, Yvonne was kept exceptionally busy; she restricted extra runs brilliantly and claimed a clinical run-out following a superb throw from Emily. When Bronwydd’s big hitters came to the crease looking for boundaries, a composed and tactically superb performance from the bowling unit thwarted their efforts. Llandeilo restricted Bronwydd to 76 for 4, leaving the Kites with a competitive target to chase.
Openers Clare and Sharon provided a steady start to the chase. The second pair, Emily and Yvonne, looked to inject some urgency with sharp running between the wickets, though an excellent catch from the Bronwydd fielders dented the score. Louisa and Anjuli then combined beautifully, rotating the strike well against quick and accurate bowling.
It all came down to the final pairing of Kayley and Gemma, who walked to the crease needing 24 runs to win. Showing immense composure under pressure, their calculated batting brought the scores within three runs heading into the final over. Ice-cool in the clutch, a couple of quick singles followed by a magnificent four from Kayley pushed the Red Kites ahead. After safely blocking out the remaining balls, Llandeilo secured a thrilling victory! Huge thanks to Bronwydd for yet another fantastically close game of cricket.

Game 2: Red Kites vs. Aberystwyth
Buoyant from their opening victory but facing the ominous task of playing back-to-back matches with no fresh legs, the Kites stepped up to face hosts Aberystwyth. Any batting nerves from the first game vanished instantly as Clare and Sharon got off to a flyer—Sharon smashing three boundaries and Clare finding her form with some elegant offside drives.
Emily and Yvonne carried that momentum forward with an excellent partnership, featuring a brilliant knock from Emily, who top-scored for the day with 28 runs. Louisa and Anjuli maintained their superb chemistry on the pitch, before Gemma and Kayley anchored the back end of the innings with a sensational 45-run partnership, capping off a dominant batting display.
Llandeilo carried that fire straight into the second innings. Kayley and Anjuli struck instantly with wickets in their opening overs, before Clare claimed two more courtesy of safe hands from Sharon and Anjuli.
Aberystwyth found some composure later in the order, frustrating the bowlers for the remainder of the innings. However, excellent fielding from Yvonne and Louisa starved them of boundaries. Backed by highly economical bowling, the Red Kites never let the game slip, cruising to a comfortable 72-run victory.
A final note of thanks to Aberystwyth for the brilliant hospitality, umpiring, and scoring duties on the day. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and wish you the absolute best of luck for the rest of the season!

🏏Our Midweek team made the short journey to Llanwrda this week. With a chill in the air and the feel of Kate Bush dancing on the boundary, singing wuthering heights , the set was scene for a titanic battle between these two old foes.
Stand in Captain for the evening Haydn Hatfield in the absence of Merv the batsman Davies, lost the toss and Llanwrda decided to bowl.
Opening pair Haydn Hatfield and Joseff Rees Davies came out of the blocks with a bang, playing every shot like it was the last over. Haydn eventually fell for 17 . Good scores from Alfie Chappell (14) and Xander Davies (20 not out) got Llandeilo to 122- 4
⭐️The star of the batting was Joseff Rees Davies getting 52 not out.⭐️
With a look of fear on their faces and Kate Bush looking on, it was time for Llanwrda to chase the score.
Some fine bowling from Harrison Morse (1)and Emily Hatfield (2)kept Llanwrda quiet. Further wickets from George wrigley, Joseff RD, Owen James and Xander Davies kept Llanwrda to 66-7 and a 56 run win for Llandeilo.
🙌🏻Our u13s player Henry Marks bowled 10 solid balls and did brilliantly on his senior debut. 👏
So , without further to do, it was time to head home, leaving Cathy and Heathcliff in the nets taking forward defence tips from Alan.
While I drove home I also wondered how Owen managed to take a wicket.
Our next game is home to Penygroes

⭐️Our u11s had a trip to Kidwelly cc this week and with the temptation of going to see the castle or slipping down to the beach in Pembrey, the boys knew there was a job to do first, in beating Kidwelly.

Our captain for the night Cato Davies lost the toss and Kidwelly decided to bowl.
Looking across at our supporters, you would think you were at Everest base camp, the way everyone was cwtched into their blankets.
A good start from Rhydian Jones and Cato Davies gave Llandeilo a solid platform.
Dyfan Williams and Gruffydd Gwynn were solid in defence and gave nothing away. It was the turn of the Hickman boys to come in and as usual it would be easier to steal the Crown Jewels than get a wicket off these two.
A brilliant partnership from Iori Williams and Arthur Hammond pushed the scoreboard along , with Iori scoring 13.
It was the turn of Twm gruffydd and Lewys Rees Davies, who really pushed the score up. Twm was a brilliant partner for Lewys, who scored 26 not out.
We finished on 118-2
A big score to chase and opening bowler Lewys Rees Davies was a no mood to hold back with his pace.
Charging in like a galloping rhino 🦏, he caused havoc for batters and Rhys Hickman behind the stumps.
Wickets for Lewys, Cato Davies, Arthur Hammond , Lewis Hickman, Gruffydd Gwynn and Iori Williams were reward for the hard work.
🏏Pick of the bowlers was Twm
Gruffydd, with 3 wickets, reducing Kidwelly to 97-13 and a winning margin of 65 runs.🙌🏻
A wonderful defensive display from the batters was the key to the victory.
So with the game over, it was time to head back to Llandeilo with a smile on our faces and the heater on full in the car.
Next week we play Carmarthen home
