Honestly, conditions aren't ideal for either really; this baking heat not ideal. Still, it does mean that pretty much any venue is dry, so it does mean it's a good opportunity to make the most.

My magic touch for venue choice with boulders seemed to strike again yesterday, too. The best thing about having been around here for so long is that I'm familiar with the majority of boulders and the best spot i could think of for the right grades in the shade was the Brenin boulder. And I must admit I was relieved to be proven right. Matty ticked off a couple of good lines, trying another two that didn't quite go, giving him something to come back to next time.

Then today, time for something completely different. Yes, they're still climbing but you can't really find too more varied climbs than The Hobbit 6c+ and Avalanche/Red Wall/Longlands S 4b. Yet this is one of the things that makes climbing so special and yet again, I was thrilled to be part of this amazing week for him.

Special thanks go to and for such amazing staff teams that made running courses a genuine pleasure

Congratulations to my amazing wife who is now a fully qualified midwife. Couldn't be more proud

So I’ve been resting a little wear and tear injury for a few months and hope to add more cragside coaching to my menu from here on in!

This is definitely something I will be incorporating as of now each season.

I’ve not managed to enjoy any quality mountain days for me or with friends much at all since starting my business. This is the second repetitive injury that’s impacted my life/work so it’s time for a change.

How can you help? By adding climbing coaching into your adventure days… this really contributes to your mountain scramble game…

I am the proof! 🐐

So nice to be running more FUNdamentals workshops at again. I've not run any back home for a little while so great to be back at my local wall.

This one is the famous Selfie Game; a handy trick designed to encourage people to find optimum positions on the wall by taking a Selfie every three moves. I've used my own phone for this one but participants get given a foam phone as part of the exercise.

So nice to be running more FUNdamentals workshops at again. I've not run any back home for a little while so great to be back at my local wall.

In the afternoon, I give participants a whiteboard that says 'What is Good Footwork?' and ask them to answer the question. To help, I've given them a heap of games all designed to prompt in the right direction

On Fundas 2, I've added a new section. After we've covered all the ingredients, I asked them to put it all together with some route reading. They had a choice between talking it through or drawing the route on a whiteboard, adding details along the way

Our coaching practices don't come out of nowhere. They're built on experiences, but not just coaching experiences, our experiences in our climbing too. It's one of the brilliant things about starting out: we're never starting from scratch, we bring our experiences in our own climbing along too.

This week, I'm developing my own personal climbing experiences but heading off to develop a new crag down in Pembrokeshire. I stumbled across the place about a month ago and having checked extensively, could find nothing documented anywhere. So time for me to add some South Wales first ascents to the repertoire!

It speaks to that element of me that wants to be creative, wants to develop and wants to share with others. All of which show heavily both in my coaching and in my coach education courses. Come along to one, you'll see

It's been a whirlwind few weeks, with so much going on it's been hard to keep track. In the last month, there have been seven courses, various private sessions and a mountain of admin to attack.

But this Saturday gone stands out as a highlight. A family of four, from Texas no less, over here and wanting to take their skills outside and apply them on rock. I had the pleasure of taking them out and watching them absolutely smash it at Caseg Fraith, with smiles from the first minute to the last.

I'm sure they'll post more pictures themselves, I only managed this one but it does encapsulate the day beautifully: powering up Caseg Fraith Arete 6b, learning, adapting and thriving. Cannot wait to see what they get up to next.

MESSAGE TO YOU:
If you too wish to take your skills to the hills, we can make that happen! There are plenty of available days for private days out over the summer or for more of a taster to what you may expect, and I are running a day in a few weeks that still has spaces available.
