🔴🔵 Murie Blues 3-4 Dalkeith Thistle 🌑⚽️
After the summer break and Edinburgh Cup a couple of weeks ago 🏆, we were back in league action against top-of-the-table Dalkeith. 💪⚽️
With a few players unavailable, we were unfortunately down to only having 1 sub, with some of the girls carrying some knocks too 🤕. We were a bit walking wounded 🚑 and expected it to be a tough game, but knowing the girls are more than capable of matching up against any team in our league when they are at it. 🔥
In training this week we tried a few different positions with this match in mind, based on who was available 🔄. We thanked the girls before the game in advance for any flexibility they would show if we needed to move people around depending on injury etc. 🙌
What happened for the next 80 minutes or so made us all so proud ❤️💙, as our girls went toe-to-toe with a team boasting a 100% win record. 💪🔥
We took the lead when Keira hit a speculative shot from wide 🎯, which Casey was on hand to pounce on when the opposition keeper spilled. ⚽️👏 Dalkeith managed to get in front before half time with a couple of goals, but other than that defensively we were repelling most of the pressure put on us. 🛡️💪
We got caught cold at the start of the 2nd half, with Dalkeith pressing and forcing a mistake straight from kick-off and going 3-1 ahead. ⚽️
What happened next is where we were so proud. ❤️ With numbers against us, top opposition and tiredness kicking in, the girls could have had their heads drop, but instead they showed a never-give-up attitude 💪🔥 and got themselves back in the game.
Abbie bursting down the right-hand side ⚡️ and crossing for Casey to knock home her 2nd from close range. ⚽️🥅 3-2! 🙌
Olivia then got us level with a brilliant finish from the edge of the box 🚀⚽️ as the girls managed to find another gear despite tiredness. 3-3! 🔥🔴🔵
We lost out at the death from a good corner from the opposition which was prodded home 😔. Despite some late pressure, we couldn’t find the equaliser that I felt our performance deserved. 💔
Could wax lyrical about the whole team today 👏❤️💙, from Aimee having some good moments keeping the opposition out 🧤🧱.
Our defence in Sophie x2 (or Sophie squared 😆) cleared everything but also showed composure under pressure. 🛡️💪 Charly and Keira/Caitlin in the full-back positions did a ton of work 🏃♀️💨 and, with a few changes, Alexis and Abbie put in a tireless performance in midfield and on the wing. 🔥
Emily and Lucy battled excellently in midfield 💪⚔️ and Casey showed brilliant striker’s instinct to be in the right place at the right time to bag her 2 goals ⚽️⚽️, whilst also being a threat on the left. 👏
Olivia led the line in her usual never-give-up spirit 💪❤️ and, despite being in the wars a few times 🤕, got her reward with a great finish for her goal. ⚽️🔥
Overall, it was such a joy to watch them play as a team 🤝❤️💙, back each other, work hard for each other and do so much work off the ball. 👏👏
We’ve given Dalkeith two close games this season, each time losing out by the odd goal, but the girls showed that if they play to this level, they can compete with everyone in this league. 💪🔥⚽️
Hope all the girls are okay as there were a few bumps and bruises 🤕❤️, but you all stepped up for the team today and should be incredibly proud of yourselves. 👏🔴🔵
Rest up girls! 🛌💙❤️ We’re back in action on Wednesday this week before a weekend off next weekend. ⚽️🔥
