Can’t believe we are writing this but very sad to say that the full time whistle has blown on the Murieston United 2010 Girls.

An unbelievable 6 years with this team and it has been a privilege for the coaches to be a part of so many girls football and life journeys.

There have been a million memories made with training, games, tournaments, smiles, tears, laughs, team/individual success, trophies lifted, pitchside clashes, friends made, sunburn, soaked through and more and more laughs.

Wouldn’t change a thing

It doesn’t even come close to how much this team has meant to us but to everyone involved in our journey we say thank you 🙏

Very different looking side today as we started our friendlies to prepare for next year with a number of girls stepping up from our younger team to help out along with some new girls.

There were some periods of good football throughout the game which was great to see given that a number of girls didn’t know each other or were playing out of position.

We still created a number of chances that we should have done better with and unfortunately conceded a couple from errors that our opposition capitalised on and that proved to be the difference.

Plenty to take away from the game as we move into a good period of friendlies in preparation for next year

Player of the match goes to Chloe after starting game with a solid display at the back before moving further forward and being involved in absalutly everything from linking attacks, providing penetrating passes and great tackling/interceptions to break down attacks.

Well that was some end to the season.

So with no pressure at all from numerous people at the club to get a win in the first match on the new pitch….😉🤣….we kicked off for the last game of the league and first match on our new pitch. We asked the girls to end the season with big performance and that’s exactly what we got. For the number of clear chances we created we were abit wasteful infront of goal but despite that we can say the team were fantastic today all over the pitch.

A real team performance with focused and ready keeper when needed, solid defence with important tackles and calm distribution, tireless midfield breaking things down and controlling tempo while linking attacks, forwards never giving the defence a second and getting on the end of attack after attack.

Player of the match could have went to so many today but goes to Esme who got a couple of important goals to put the girls on the way to the win they all wanted to end with.

A day filled with emotions as we knew it was to be the last game for a number of girls with some changing age groups now, some taking on new adventures and a coach calling it time.

The good byes today were heart felt and draining so won’t drag it all up again but to the girls that are leaving and to Gaz stepping down.

Fantastic night with the team and family and friends last night at our end of year awards night / race night.

Massive congratulations and thank you to the girls for what’s been another great season with finishing 3rd in the league and 3 tournament wins which was all down to a lot of hard work from them and plenty laughs along the way.

This seasons awards went as below-

Coaches player of the year - Abby
Players player of the year - Tiahna
Parents player of the year - Tiahna
Supporters player of the year - Hannah

Also a massive thank you to all involved in the organising of the night and to everyone who supported the cause by coming, giving donations or prizes. As always this stuff wouldn’t be possible without the girls family and friends giving them such great support. It’s truly appreciated.

The gifts for the coaches were greatly appreciated

Total amount raised last night was £1678

Great to see everyone have such a good time and wind down after a long year…though with one more game to go we will aim to finish the year off with a top performance 💪🏻

We went into our second last game of the league today hoping to take our push for 2nd spot to the final day but we couldn’t make it happen and go into our last game next week with a finish of 3rd.

Girls started very brightly and we were creating chance after chance but being far to wasteful in front of goal which sadly has been a theme lately. The girls started to lose their grip on the game and found themselves behind from a goal we shouldn’t be conceding. Despite being a long way to go a lot of heads seemed to go down and effort fell away. We finished the first half very much on the back foot.

Second half we quickly fell further behind after failing to clear a ball on the edge of the box and not long later it was 3 losing a goal on a breakaway from our own throw in. At this point our visitors sat off abit and that let us slowly grow into game and got a goal from a quick reaction to a spill. This spurred girls on a little and got a second from a nice angled strike. We were again creating chances but being far too wasteful and couldn’t find an equaliser. If we had the same energy the whole game as we had I the first and last 10 then it could have been different game but we weren’t good enough today.

Player of match was Lillie who showed real fight start to finish and constantly trying to get the team going. Solid in the middle of the pitch breaking things down and a number of great links up driving forward.

We travelled to Dalkeith today as we near the end of the season with this our 3rd last game.

Girls got of to the perfect start with a long range finish taking advantage of the keeper coming out to clear a ball. We had a lot of control of the game early on and found ourselves extending the lead with a nice passing move ending with a well placed finish from edge of the box. We lost our grip on the game as we were wasting a number of chances and got a bit sloppy and conceded before half time after not defending a corner well.

Second half we struggled to get the same control of the game we had in first half and it was a lot more evenly balanced. We were again creating lots of chances and wasting them. We did extend the lead with a nice free kick into the box and the ball lifted over the keeper. The 2 goal lead didn’t last long as a number of missed tackles and hesitation lead to a simple finish into our net. The game was end to end as both teams tried to find a goal and thankfully it fell to us following a corner and that was the last action of the game.

Player of the match goes to Erin whose attacking distribution was fantastic all throughout the game whilst also helping linking up play all over the pitch.
