BWPL and Swim England are teaming up in 2025 to launch โ€œMaking Waves,โ€ a new initiative to boost female participation in water polo refereeing.

The programme will support female refereesโ€™ development, tackle barriers to recruitment and progression, and create lasting resources for future officials.

โ€œMaking Wavesโ€ kicks off this month at the BWPL Womenโ€™s event in Liverpool, featuring international referee Anna Goncharenko, who will referee, mentor officials, and lead an open workshop on Sunday morning before the matches start.
