We’re deeply saddened to share that our friend and long time climber Les Jennings passed away on 17th July after a courageous battle with cancer.
Les (known to many as Lord Les, after he seconded an early repeat of Lord of the Flies in the Llanberis Pass) has been part of the Liverpool climbing scene since the late 1970s. If you climbed in Liverpool over the last five decades, chances are you crossed paths with him: sharing a route, hearing one of his legendary stories, or benefiting from his incredible knowledge of climbing and local history. He was a true character, the kind who’ll be talked about for years to come.
Les has been part of the Awesome Walls family since we first opened in 1999, and his presence and passion for climbing will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service to honour Les’ memory will take place tomorrow, Friday 4th September at 8.30am at Thornton Crematorium. The hearse will travel directly from Moister’s Funeral Directors, Southport, and meet everyone at the crematorium for the service and committal.
Our thoughts and love are with all who climbed alongside him. Thank you, Les, for everything you brought to our community.
