🎣 NEW YOUTH FISHING SESSIONS – LATHOM, LANCASHIRE! 🎣

Does your child want to learn how to fish or develop their confidence on the bank? 💚

Primal Mentality CIC is bringing our Get Fishing programme to Lathom, with a 6-week block designed to introduce young people to angling in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

📍 Lathom, Lancashire. L40 4AH
📅 Every Wednesday starting 9th September
⏰ 4:30pm – 6:00pm
👦👧 Ages 7+
💷 £3 per session – £18 for the full 6-week block
📆 6-Week Block Booking
🎣 All fishing equipment provided

Across the six weeks, young anglers will learn:

🎯 Casting
🎣 Setting up fishing tackle
🪱 Baits & baiting techniques
🐟 Playing & landing fish
🔎 Fish identification
💚 Fish care & safe handling
🌊 Safely returning fish to the water

No previous fishing experience is needed!

Our sessions are kept to small groups, giving every young person plenty of support and the opportunity to learn, build confidence and enjoy being outdoors.

Whether they’ve never held a fishing rod before or have recently started fishing and want to learn more, we’d love to welcome them along. 🎣🤙

We’ve shared plenty about what we think young people get from fishing… but this time we’d love to hear from you.

Unfortunately, due to the thunderstorm and weather warning, we have made the decision to cancel today’s Get Fishing session at Clincton Woods.

With fishing rods, open water and the risk of lightning, the safety of the young people, parents and our team has to come first. 🎣⚡

We apologise for the short notice and any disappointment, but the weather is simply not safe for us to run the session.

🎣 WHAT DOES A PRIMAL FISHING SESSION ACTUALLY INCLUDE? 💚

When a young person comes along to one of our fishing sessions, they’re getting much more than simply a couple of hours with a fishing rod.

Our sessions are about learning, developing and getting involved.

Here’s what you can expect from a Primal session:

🎣 Qualified angling coaching — learning the right techniques from the beginning and developing existing skills.

🎯 Practical skills — casting, setting up, baiting, rigs, playing and landing fish and becoming more independent on the bank.

🐟 Fish care & education — identifying different species, handling fish correctly and learning how to safely return them to the water.

🪱 Equipment, tackle & bait — everything needed can be provided, so complete beginners don’t need to buy loads of equipment just to get started.

🌿 Time outdoors — getting away from screens, enjoying nature and experiencing everything that being beside the water has to offer.

💚 Small-group support — giving our young anglers plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get involved and receive help when they need it.

But there’s also plenty that you can’t put a price on…

Confidence. Patience. Resilience. Independence. New friendships. And discovering a hobby that could stay with them for life.

Our aim isn’t simply to help a child catch a fish.

It’s to give them the skills, knowledge and confidence so that eventually they can get out fishing and put everything they’ve learned into practice themselves.

That’s what it’s all about. 🎣💚

🎣 WHAT CAN FISHING TEACH A CHILD? 💚

Fishing teaches young people far more than simply how to catch a fish.

Every time they’re out on the bank, they’re developing skills that can carry over into everyday life.

⏳ Patience — understanding that sometimes you have to wait and not everything happens straight away.

💪 Resilience — losing a fish, getting tangled or making a mistake… then learning from it and trying again.

🎯 Concentration — watching the float, learning to cast accurately and staying focused on what they’re doing.

🙌 Confidence — that moment when they cast, bait up, land a fish or complete something all by themselves.

🤝 Teamwork — helping another young angler, sharing what they’ve learned and celebrating someone else’s catch.

🌿 Respect — learning how to properly care for fish and respect the wildlife, water and environment around them.

Of course, we love seeing the excitement when a young person catches a fish. 🐟

But sometimes we see something even better…

A child who wouldn’t try something suddenly giving it a go.

Someone who always needed help saying “I can do it.”

Or one young angler showing another how it’s done. 💚

Sometimes the biggest achievement of the session isn’t the fish they caught. 🎣

AHi Everyone,

What an incredible weekend at the Primal Mentality CIC Carp Championship, delivered in partnership with Hurlston Hall Fishery Ormskirk

Over 180lb of carp were banked in 24 hours, showing just how well the fish are feeding with the recent change in weather and water pressure.

Our third qualifier saw 12 fantastic young anglers compete for a place in the Grand Final. Congratulations to our top three: 🥇 Riley – 1st Place 🥈 Harry – 2nd Place 🥉 Zak – 3rd Place

Every single young angler should be incredibly proud. The standard of watercraft, fish care, respect and sportsmanship throughout the weekend was outstanding. This competition is about much more than catching fish—it's about developing the next generation of responsible anglers, building confidence, creating friendships and making memories that will last a lifetime.

A huge thank you to the Primal Mentality CIC Team for organising and delivering the competition, providing the qualified coaching team and volunteers, and to Hurlston Hall Fishery for supporting the event and helping create such a fantastic venue for these young anglers.

We'd also like to say thank you to all the companies who help out by supporting us and donating prizes and all of the parents and grandparents whose continued support helps make these competitions possible.

We can't wait to see you all on the bank again soon 🤙🏆

🎣 THE PEOPLE BEHIND PRIMAL 💚

You see the fish, the smiles and the sessions — but behind Primal is a small team who genuinely care about giving young people positive experiences through angling and the outdoors.

It isn’t just about catching fish. It’s about creating a place where young people feel welcome, learn at their own pace and build confidence, patience, independence and new skills.

👤 CHRIS — Founder & Level 2 Angling Coach

Chris founded Primal Mentality and leads our angling sessions. As a qualified Level 2 Angling Coach, experienced carp angler and outdoor practitioner, he brings years of fishing and outdoor knowledge to the bank.

From complete beginners learning their first cast to young anglers developing their carp fishing, rigs, watercraft, baiting, casting and fish care, Chris loves passing that knowledge on and watching young people become confident, independent anglers.

💚 HANNAH — Welfare Officer & Safeguarding Lead

Hannah works behind the scenes providing admin support, as well as volunteering alongside us on sessions.

As our Welfare Officer and Safeguarding Lead, she’s an important part of making sure our young people feel safe, supported and welcome while they’re with Primal.

We’re also lucky to have a number of fantastic volunteers who give their time to help us on our sessions and support the young people taking part.

As Primal continues to grow, we’re always happy to hear from people who may be interested in getting involved and giving something back.

🎣 IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE BIGGEST FISH… 💚

In fishing, it’s easy to focus on how big the fish was.

But on our Primal sessions, some of the moments we’re proudest of have absolutely nothing to do with the weight on the scales.

🐟 A child’s first ever fish.

🎯 The first time they cast out completely on their own.

🙌 The first time they bait their own hook, land their own fish or safely return it without needing help.

💚 A young person who was nervous at their first session suddenly chatting away and making new friends.

🎣 Or simply seeing a child discover something they genuinely enjoy doing outdoors.

That little fish they’re holding might not look like much to everyone else… but to them, it could mean everything.

That’s why we celebrate every catch and every bit of progress.

Because we’re not just trying to create better anglers.

We’re helping young people build confidence, patience, independence, resilience and a connection with the outdoors.

The big fish are brilliant…

But sometimes the smallest fish create the biggest smiles. 🎣💚
