Now, this is where my report would normally end but today, dear readers, you will need to indulge me! Yesterday was Martin and my last game with Beaumont Park after nearly 8 years of playing, supporting, being assistant manager, secretary and treasurer and finally manager between us. When Martin first joined Beaumont I expected to pop along for a local game now and then to watch but after he broke his leg in his first league game I turned into taxi driver as he didn't want to miss the games and slowly but surely we fell in love with Beaumont Park. Once he was back playing I was an established supporter, having been welcomed into the fold, and I just continued to come and watch. After 2 seasons Steve asked if I would become secretary/treasurer and then I started the hardest job in football, parting players with their match fees! In season 3, Steve couldn't arrange preseason training so Martin suggested I would do it and then started the circuits and drills that the boys would become familiar with. I then continued to support Steve with training and took charge of my first game in the cup against Crawley (Martin was meant to do it but was too busy playing) which we won! Steve decided to retire at the end of season 4 and very bravely the boys decided that they would have a 'bird' as their manager. For all of you that were there at that point - thank you for having faith!

Our first season was amazing, but cut short by covid and this continued to effect the next one. During that time we trained on Facebook live and then when we were allowed to see each other in small groups we ran sessions two evenings a week in groups of no more than 6 so everyone could still have a go. It was a stressful time for me as I was so worried about keeping everyone safe but we got through it!

Last season was the first full season I managed!

Now the time has come to step away and although it's sad it's the right thing. In all this time I've had the support of Chris, the players, my SWAGs and other supporters but also my biggest supporter, Martin. He most definitely hasn't always agreed with my footballing decisions but he has continually supported the club taking on far more than most people realise, only missing about 4 training sessions in 8 years and not missing a single game, even when injured. I can't actually thank him enough. But also I need to thank every single one of you who are reading this. You've supported us, even if it has been from afar, and I'm very grateful. From all the original players who were brave enough to put their trust in me to the new players who have helped make us become the club we now are, THANK YOU.

I promise I will stop this self indulgence now - you have been with me in the best of times and some of my very worst. We've welcomed babies and said goodbye to loved ones together. I will miss it!

All the very best to you all. Allie xx

Beaumont played Flansham Park at a sunny, and dry, Angmering. It was going to be a tough game after Beaumont were missing several regulars but 12 brave men donned the gold shirt ready to give Flansham a game. The fans were out in force to support and an impeccably observed remembrance silence was completed before kick off.

The game was pretty end to end for the first 20 mins with chances made by both teams. Beaumont were putting the tackles in to try and keep hold of the ball and it was working for a time. Flansham were becoming frustrated and Beaumont tried to capitalise on this, however Flansham pushed back and were up 0-2 at half time.

After the break Beaumont regrouped and Matt K made way for George. Beaumont had new heart and, although Flansham pushed, Beaumont found themselves equal, in fact more than equal when Matt G slotted home from a pass from Ollie who had been picked out on the wing. 1-2.

A real chance looked in the offing when a corner from Martin was whipped in and seemed to hit the hand of a Flansham player, however it wasn't seen by the ref and another corner was given which was unfortunately saved.

Beaumont continued to push and Flansham pushed back. Beaumont defended well to keep hopes alive and were rewarded when Luke C popped in a cross from Mikey, 2-2.

With 15 mins to go, Beaumont were starting to get a bit weary but the passion was still there. Flansham were caught off-side repeatedly in the second half with Beaumont's back line holding firm. Flansham then pushed forward, seemed to foul Dan, and scored. The goal was given but Beaumont couldn't help but feel a little hard done by as they really felt they should have had a free-kick.

The last 10 saw George make way for Matt K to return and Beaumont trying to pull back a goal. Unfortunately time was not on their side and 2-3 was the final score. But what a game it was! Beaumont should be very proud of their hard work.

Squad : Max, Jack M, Dan, Scott E, Mikey, Martin, Matt G, Matt K (George), Luke C, Luke G, Ollie . Man of the match after two solid performances in a row - Luke G.

Beaumont were away to Angmering Saturdays on this week, although at a familiar venue. Beaumont were fielding a reduced team but were able to name a strong squad nonetheless. Beaumont had to have a last minute change of socks, due to a clash of colours so blue socks were the flavour of the day!

The first half was busy with Max making a couple of great saves and mid-field duo Matt G and Tom having a tough time in the middle against 3 determined reds. The action was at both ends with Beaumont having opportunities in open play as well as in set pieces, sending the goalie into the bushes to get the ball on more than one occasion. Tactics were being devised on the sidelines as halftime approached, then Angmering snuck in with a sneaky goal to end the half 1-0 to Angmering.

A reshuffle at halftime gave Beaumont a matched line up and they were having a strong first 5 mins when Angmering stormed through to make it 2-0. At this point, Beaumont could have crumbled and accepted defeat but they set off with a new determination. Ollie made way for Matt K and Beaumont attacked repeatedly, one of which was rewarded when Martin's corner was whipped to the back post on to the waiting head of Jack M. 2-1 and the game was on. Angmering had some good opportunities but Beaumont matched them and a long ball from Luke C found Lee waiting - 2-2.

Maybe this was the time that Beaumont should have protected their point but Gold hearts wanted the win, and they looked like they would get it! A knackered Tom made way for George and Beaumont pushed and pushed to get the three points. The desire was there but the legs gave out in the end. An attack from Beaumont in the last 3 mins was thwarted and Angmering countered with a goal that was almost stopped on many occasions in the build up. Had the striker hit it cleanly, Max would have had the ball safe in his hands but a scuff saw the ball just past Max's finger tips and roll into the back of the net in slow motion. 3-2. Again Beaumont pushed in the dying seconds of the game, desperate to regain the draw but time was not on their side and the refs final whistle bought a crushing defeat to Beaumont, a win that Angmering were not sure they really deserved.

Although Beaumont hearts were broken and there were rightly very
disappointed Golds in the dressing room, Beaumont should be proud - they played with heart, they played with passion, they pushed and pushed to the very end of the game. A weaker side would have given up at 2-0, they would have argued and fought and got booked. This didn't happen in the 90; they just worked and worked to get their first win. There's no doubting that a couple of additional subs would have made all the difference, but the 13 who were there can take heart that they didn't give up and this will surely bear fruit in future games.

Man of the match - Matt Gibb.

Beaumont Park were away again, this time playing on the bright green carpet which is Bosham's ground. Beaumont had a new supporter in their ranks with 5 day old Isabelle Mitchell joining the sidelines for her very first game! A very welcome addition to the Beaumont family! Beaumont's loyal supporters enjoying a few cuddles during the game!

There were some inforced changes to the squad due to player availability and injury but again Beaumont were able to field a strong squad on their away day. Another positive performance was hoped for!

Beaumont had some good chances in the opening minutes with a few good goal scoring opportunities in open play only just missing the mark. A free kick, looped in the box along with a swerving corner all looked to have gone in only to be gathered by the keeper in the last seconds. Bosham started to counter and overload the right flank, making Beaumont shuffle over and defend. This had an impact on Beaumont's counter attack with players out of position defending. Max had a few saves to make and make them he did, along with support from the defensive line who cleared the ball well and weaved in and out of the Bosham players, taking the ball off many a toe! A reshuffle calmed the last few minutes and Beaumont were able to take their frustrating 0-0 into the break.

The second half started with a couple of changes, Ollie and Craig making way for Luke C and new signing Matt T. Bosham seemed to have changed their tactics after being thwarted by Beaumont again and again in the first half and Beaumont again started well. The subs and Bosham's changes seemed to have added a bit of creativity to Beaumont when in attack and one such link up from Matt T through to Scott G broke the deadlock, 0-1 to Beaumont. Bosham immediately countered but Beaumont held there own. Scott, after being flattened several times by enthuastic Bosham players, made way for Mikey who took over from Jack M in left back with Jack moving into centre mid. Beaumont continued to push forward and Bosham continued to push back. Beaumont had seemed to be offside a lot in the first half and this continued into the second with several Beaumont attacks drawing a flag. Bosham countered and earned a free kick which hit home, making the score 1-1. Martin made way for Craig. Beaumont surged forward and Matt T looked through on goal only to be hacked down by the defender and then the goalie. Unfortunately the ref was too far away to be able to give a penalty.

Beaumont continued to defend and attack with purpose, and the Bosham challenges were flying in hard and fast, one such challenge leaving Gareth limping and being replaced by Matt K. Lee's race was also temporarily run with 10 mins to go, being replaced by Ollie. Matt T again looked through on goal, after running past 3 defenders, only to be pulled back by yet another offside flag. This was all to much for Matt T's groin meaning Lee returned to the field for the final 3.

Beaumont got the draw, and it was hard work - this was not anywhere near Beaumont's best performance and they made it hard for themselves against a forceful, frustrated opponent. A bit of 'handbags' at the final whistle seemed to sum up a frustrating day all round. Beaumont remain unbeaten this season, but it seemed very much like a case of 2 points dropped. That said, there were positives and Beaumont are still getting used to each other after many new additions to the team. Beaumont will go again next week, refreshed and ready to give Fittleworth a good game.

Man of the match - Scott G for a strong performance in the centre.

Squad : Max, Jack Will, Matt G, Dec, Jack M, Gareth (Matt K), Craig (Luke C), Scott G (Mikey), Martin, Ollie (Matt T), Lee

25/09/2022

The sun was shining on Beaumont for their away trip to Pulborough, a familiar setting after Beaumont beat the reserves in the cup last season. The firsts were riding high at the top of the league, but Beaumont were fielding a great squad so hopes were high for a good game. Lee reminded Allie that there probably should have been some penalties practice at training.....hopefully Beaumont wouldn't come to regret the lack of practice! The pitch was beautiful, but on a deceptive slope. A good warm up was needed to get the legs ready for 90 mins of mountaineering!

Beaumont started with a slightly depleted squad as Dec didn't finish work in time to make it (someone's gotta collect them bins after the bank holiday) but a strong team and bench were out in Gold. Dan slipped into the gloves of the absent Max and new signing Tom had been cleared in time to make his debut.

Beaumont lined up in a 4-4-2 and were instructed to play the passing game that suits them so well, and it bore fruit as Beaumont came at Pulborough from the off. Defensively, Beaumont needed a little time to settle but play was positive and after 20 mins Beaumont had the lead; a great ball from Scott G, chased down by Matt G, flung across the box onto the waiting head of Lee. 0-1 Beaumont. Pulborough upped the pressure; this was not the walk in the park they expected, and tempers flared a little, resulting in Lee and Matt G seeing yellow. Pulborough attacked again and again but keeper Dan was equal to the pressure. Pulborough did equalise, only to see it ruled out for offside; the ref went and had a word with lino, Matt K, and he said enough to convince the ref that the player was off in the build up keeping Beaumont's lead. A great piece of line-ing (not all heroes wear capes!).

Pulborough were fired up and went at Beaumont hard - one such attack, forcing a fantastic double save from Dan, unfortunately proved too much for Dan's thumb (broken and displaced was the verdict at A and E later) plus Lee had been injured in the build up. A double substitution, and a shuffle round saw Matt G in the sticks, Gareth taking Lee's place and Tom stepping into Matt's now vacant midfield position. 10 mins til half time and it had been a busy half! Gareth then took a ball to the face a very close range, leaving him with a scratched and numb nose, he was a bit surprised but able to carry on. Beaumont held and managed to make it to half-time with their hard earnt lead, and feeling slightly knackered from running up hill for 45 mins.

At halftime, Allie decided a shuffle was needed and moved Martin in to centre with Scott G and Tom, moving Gareth to the left wing and Ollie up top by himself. Beaumont had started to lose shape and Allie hoped this would shore up an overloaded midfield. It seemed to work as, although Pulborough erupted into the second half, Beaumont were there to meet them at every step. Beaumont defended, countered and attacked leading to a Beaumont corner, whipped in the crowded box and sent in the back of the net. Was it an OG from Pulborough? Well Tom was happy to claim the goal on his debut and the defender wouldn't want it! 0-2 Beaumont. Again things started to get a little heated on the pitch. Jon narrowly avoided a yellow card for a high foot and Scott G was booked for the second game in a row. Matt K came on for Scott G - up top, with Luke G moving to the centre and Ollie into right midfield. Matt K looked through on goal in his opening minutes, then fouled the defender giving Pulborough a free kick. They, very generously, gave it straight to Ollie who was there to pop it in the top corner from long range, a lovely calm finish which put Beaumont 0-3 up.

Pulborough had already changed their formation and seemed to be running out of ideas. Matt G had a bit of work to do but nothing that taxed him too much. Pulborough had their share of corners but these were masterfully dealt with by Beaumont. The counter was on with Gareth narrowly missing and Beaumont being a threatening presence in the box. Luke G picked up a yellow card. A Beaumont corner 15 mins from the end- looped in the mixer by Martin and powered home by Scott E gave Beaumont a 0-4 lead. Ollie made way for Scott to come back on and a couple of minutes later, a slightly knackered Tom made way for Lee to come back on. Beaumont still had chances, a notable one from Gareth that hit the bar, and they charged forward to full-time- what a game!! 0-4 seems and easy run about but that win was fought for with broken bones, sweat, tears and 4 yellow cards! There was no denying the 15 men of Beaumont had had a tough game. Without measure, every gold on that pitch had a massive influence on the game. It wasn't a perfect performance, but it was a fantastic game which was enjoyed by the loyal Gold supporters who had made the journey.

Man of the match was Jack M who had a great game last week but was brilliant this week, although, as Jon said, there were man of the match performances all over Pulborough yesterday, and all of them were playing in Gold!

Beaumont players are eternally grateful to their amazing supporters who loyally follow us around the county. The fact we are a family club is truly reflected on the side-lines and we love having you along with us for the ride!

Squad: Dan (Tom), Jack Will, Scott E, Jon, Jack M, Luke G, Scott G (Matt K), Matt G, Martin, Ollie, Lee (Gareth)

Now I'm going for a bloody strong coffee, or a gin!!!

Beaumont Park vs Wittering Utd.

Beaumont kicked off their season, albeit delayed by the death of her majesty the Queen and the withdrawal of Thakeham. It was Beaumont's first official home game at their new ground and the pitch was looking beautiful.

After a very respectfully observed minutes silence before the game, Beaumont kicked off and were on the offensive from the start. The first 15 saw Beaumont a whisker away from taking the lead on more than one occasion. Witterings substitute goalkeeper was repeatedly tested but seemed to always be in the right place. There were shots, corners and a free kick which went just off target but it was all looking positive for Beaumont. The next 10 passed similarly but a few light tackles resulted in Wittering free kicks, one of which was converted by Wittering making it 0-1 very much against the run of play. The rest of the half, Beaumont struggled to regain their rhythm and shape. The pressure was soaked up by the defence and Max, who made some commanding catches to keep Beaumont in it.

At the start of the second half, Scott E and Luke C made way for Ollie and Luke G, Beaumont reshuffled and started again. It was a positive start and Beaumont started to attack again. Dan made way for Scott E to return and Craig made way for Gareth; Beaumont continued to progress forward. Max was kept busy at his end but nothing too much to trouble him. Lee made way for Mikey who was slotted in at an unfamiliar right back position.

Beaumont were still having chances and a shuffle in the box nearly gave Beaumont their first but it just wouldn't get out of everyone's feet. This was followed almost immediately with a link up between Ollie and Gareth which shot part the keeper- Beaumont were level! A scuffle in the Beaumont box gave someone a yellow, it looked like a card for Dec on the day but turned out it was for Scott G - who knew?? Matt King came on for Scott G and a few mins later, Martin made way for Luke C. Max was taken down by a late tackle by a Wittering attacker and the resulting discussions were lively. Max made it back to his feet, a little battered but able to continue. Beaumont held on for a good point, however they really should have had all three. There were lots of positives to take from the game; the starting line up had several brilliant link ups, the subs who came on making an impact and Beaumont were not easy to play against. Things to work on but a great delayed start to season 22/23.

MOM - Max.

Squad: Max, Jack Will, Dan, Dec, Jack M, Craig (Gareth), Scott E (Luke G) , Scott G (Matt K) , Martin, Lee (Mikey), Luke C (Ollie) .

Beaumont Park had a very hot and sweaty friendly at Littlehampton Academy on Wednesday evening against Snowy's Wednesday Night FC.

WNFC were prepping for a local derby and wanted a bit of practice playing 11 a side and Beaumont were happy to oblige. Beaumont have been working hard at preseason, but was it all worthwhile?

Beaumont had a fantastic number of players available for the outing and it was nice to see new faces amongst the more established players. The supporters were also out for an evening in the sunshine!

Beaumont started well and played some lovely football, with the wings producing a number of early chances before Lee popped home Beaumont's first of the evening. This was closely followed by a goal from Matt G which was ruled out due to the ball going out in the build up. Lee's second followed within the first 10 mins but Wednesday rallied. Beaumont still had a good hold on the game but were starting to have to defend more. For the second part of the first quarter Beaumont kept pushing and worked hard from the back up.

The second quarter started with a push and Beaumont again went on the attack. Lee finished off his hat-trick with a goal in the 33rd minute. Beaumont had had a reshuffle and the new formation continued to work well. Although Wednesday had some attacks, nothing much troubled keeper Max, although a minute of high balls made an interesting end to the half!

The third quarter started with all of Beaumont's subs having now taken to the field and new combinations being tried around the pitch. Gareth scored Beaumont's 4th on the hour mark just before the end of the third quarter and Beaumont were still on the front foot.

The 4th quarter was all about building on the strengths of the preceeding hour. Wednesday then scored a cracker of a goal bringing the score to 4-1. They had a few more chances before Noah slotted home Beaumont's final goal of the night. 5-1 sounded a lot easier win than it actually was on the night, and Wednesday definitely put up a good fight. It was a good natured game and everyone on both teams enjoyed the run out. Beaumont could be proud of what was a good performance and the experiments in formation worked well across the pitch. A positive start to the preseason preparations!!

Squad: Ben, Dan, Gareth, George, Jack Will, Jack M, John, Lee, Luke G, Martin, Matt G, Matt K, Max, Mikey, Noah, Ollie Scott E and Scott G.

Beaumont's penultimate game of the season saw Wittering head along the coast to sunny Southfields in a game which could see Wittering go second, but wouldn't move Beaumont out if their current position.

Beaumont, having the promise of a cold beer after the game to galvanise spirits, set up to enjoy a competitive game after a very narrow defeat to Wittering last time they played.

It was a busy first half with chances at both ends; Beaumont keeper Max making some great saves to keep Beaumont in it and the Wittering keeper being kept busy at the other end. Jack-Will was kept amused by an energetic attacker who, as it turned out, was more energy than composure. Even coded signals indicating the type of corner could not trick Beaumont. A late free kick from Wittering was cooly saved by Max, 0-0 at halftime but the Beaumont crowd could sense there were goals in the game.

Second half started as the first had finished although Wittering were getting noticeably frustrated. If they had expected an easy route to 2nd they were not getting it and Beaumont were not only thwarting Wittering attacks, they were troubling the keeper at the other end. The troublesome attacker had swapped sides to see if Mikey would provide and easier route through, only to swap again to see if centre back pairing, Dan and Dec, would make easier pickings, but he was wrong. Beaumont were undoubtedly the calmer and more clinical team, although obviously had been on the weights as there were Wittering players flying off in all directions. Midway through the second half a run by Jack-Will pushed a ball through to Ollie who looked to pass to Lee, who knew he was offside so encouraged Ollie to push on. Ollie calmly nut-megged the keeper and Beaumont were 1-0 up. Nothing less than was deserved.

The second half continued with a yellow card apiece for centre mid Gibb pairing, Scott and Matt. It was starting to get a little tasty on the pitch as frustration from the Wittering camp reached fever-pitch. Beaumont continued to stop Wittering making their moves and made some of their own. Matt K replaced Ollie with 12 to go. A corner, whipped in by Scott , found the head of the newly arrived Matt K who headed home to double Beaumont's lead, however the celebration needs some work!

Beaumont looked to hold on to what they had for the last 10 but this was made trickier by a second yellow (and first ever sending off) for Matt G. Beaumont, however, had done enough and Wittering were left frustrated. A marvellous win for the Golds who worked their arses off to get their just rewards.

It was too hard to pick one MOM for a game where everyone had the best of games. There was no one who didn't deserve it.

Beaumont support was again out in force and witnessed a classic. A few beers on the pitch after, maybe a tequila thrown in for good measure, and Beaumont celebrated their last home game of the season. Amazing effort from everyone who made the trip to Southfields - the players and fans!!

Squad: Max, Jack Will, Dan, Dec, Mikey, Jack M, Scott, Matt, Gareth, Lee, Ollie (Matt K).

Beaumont made the quick trip to Angmering this weekend hoping to continue their good run. It was a beautiful day and the pitch was huge! Beaumont, sporting 3 substitutes this week were also fielding 3 players suffering injury. How would they cope on the mammoth pitch?

Angmering were playing like a team playing their last game of the season, which they were, and came at Beaumont from the start. With the wind behind them they popped ball after ball over the top, all dealt with by the defence until a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard took a massive gust and hit the top corner, 1-0 Angmering. Beaumont had their chances but nothing quite stuck.

Beaumont were galvanised at the break; Ollie made way for Gareth after running himself ragged in the first half. Beaumont knew hard work would get them far so they worked their socks off. The wind, so beneficial to Angmering in the first half which Beaumont hoped to capitalise on, was suspiciously absent in the second half. A long ball, chased back by Lee, passed to Martin and pinged in the box was met by the head of Jack M and Beaumont were level. A mad 10 mins then saw Gareth sin binned, Jared carried off the pitch to be replaced by Matt K and Martin hobbling off to be replaced by George. This disrupted Beaumont's flow and a lucky shot made it 2-1 to Angmering. Ollie replaced George and Beaumont were searching for a goal. A last min corner from Scott looked like it was going in but was put just over and a massive run by Jack Will gave Beaumont another near miss. The whistle blew on a frustrating afternoon where the best team did not win at all!

Beaumont have two games left - home against Wittering before a last game of the season clash with champions Barnham. One thing is for sure, they will go into those games with heart and determination.

Amazing support as usual and thank you especially to our mini supporters who found the ball for us!!

Squad Matt G, Jared (Matt K), Dec, Dan, Jack Will, Martin (George), Scott, Luke, Jack M, Lee, Ollie (Gareth)

Beaumont made the trip to Thakeham this week and were rightly a bit jealous of Thakehams lovely new changing rooms, kiosk and on-site cafe, with enormous donuts, which the supporters were able to enjoy before the game. It was a hot day and Beaumont were featuring a slightly changed side which saw Dan between the sticks. Mikey was going to attempt to nurse his poorly hamstring through so with that in mind Beaumont made a cautious start to the half. Thakeham had other ideas and surged forward and scored after a couple of mins. Beaumont rallied and started their counter. After 10 mins Martin had to leave the field after pinging his calf so yours truly had to take the flag and Matt K joined the fray.

It was end to end stuff, mainly because Thakeham only had one tactic which was lob it long and their keeper had an amazing kick! Beaumont went forward again and again and were awarded for their persistence when Ollie scored just before the water break, assisted by Jack M. The attacks kept raining in, followed by the long clearance meaning everyone was up, and back for the whole half. Beaumont ended the half on the up and thinking there were more goals to be had.

Beaumont started the second half well but it was still end to end, the grass was long, it was hot and legs started to tire a bit (well mine anyway!). Beaumont had the most of the ball and played some nice football again, trying to let the ball do the work and picking out the passes with precision. The excellent flagging gave Beaumont some defensive support. The second half featured shots aplenty from the Golds with near misses and the crossbar saving Thakeham blushes until Ollie again hit the mark, this time assisted by Lee. This seemed to open the floodgates and Beaumont pushed and pushed. Jack M then scored assisted by Matt K. A slightly sloppy challenge earnt Jared a yellow card in the closing minutes before Lee netted Beaumont's final goal, assisted by Scott. The whistle blew and Beaumont picked up a big three points away from home.

In all honesty, Beaumont should have been in double figures but were happy to take a 1-4 win. Mikey was given man of the match for a great performance, especially for one who was nursing an injury. All in all a positive performance to take to the next game and the supporters are looking forward to next year's game against Thakeham (and possibly another donut) already!

Squad Dan, Jack Will, Jared, Dec, Mikey, Martin (Matt K), Scott, Luke, Jack M, Lee, Ollie.
