Women Only Jiu Jitsu is coming to LA MMA for 2026

From Sunday 18th January, at 4-5pm, we'll be starting women only nogi Jiu Jitsu classes at the club based at Optimus gym in Rustington.

Coach Anna has a lot of experience teaching co-ed classes and she is very excited to share her knowledge with other women in particular on how to make Jiu Jitsu work against bigger and stronger training partners

The classes will be suitable from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners

The facilities at the Optimus Gym are fantastic, with showers and plenty of free parking.
First FIVE Sundavs will be FREE, and this includes the co-ed class which follows at 5-6pm

The Innaugural LAJI is done, and in the books!

Another really successful submission only competition hosted by our club. This time we aimed early to grow from last time, so secured a larger venue at Durrington High School. This time also, with the benefit of our Lebanese Uncle, we increased the prize fund and added an advanced division

Due to lack of interest in previous competitions, we didn't set up a women's division or teens and just went with superfights for those who were interested in competing. This turned out to be a great idea rather than leave them out altogether. We had some amazing performances in the categories and some insane submission escapes. As a result, in our next competition, we will be pushing to create categories for women and teens, and hopefully, we will get the numbers

Thanks to these businesses, and Uncle Carlos RIP, we were able to scale up our competition without having to burden the financial costs onto the competitors

I'd also like to take a min to thank everyone from the club who helped out setting up and packing away. Our refs who did a fantastic job on the day, making some tough calls and keeping the athletes safe. Also, a special mention to our bar ladies Siobhan Bees and Clarissa Varza for giving up their time to run our drinks bar and keep everyone refreshed with hot drinks and Liquid Death

It's after each of our competitions I'm reminded of where this all began, as a meme match in our gym. We will keep growing and keep working hard to improve the our subsequent competitions. Thanks to all the competitors involved for putting on amazing performances and, in turn, supporting our competition

Massive congratulations to .23 for receiving his blue belt the other week

Brin has been training with us since 2023, when he turned up to class and lied about his age to be able to train. Claiming to be 17, it soon dawned on me (well a year later when he was doing his driving test) that he may have been younger than I realised

Brin has been a hardworker from day one, and someone who just puts in the graft and gets on with it. One of our most consistent members, he is a solid student who listens and takes on board everything he is taught. He has represented himself and the club at various grappling competitions and this last year, has transitioned to also competing in the cage. Training his MMA at and with us, his grappling and wrestling has become much stronger and more well rounded. His cardio is off the charts, youth and hard training paying dividends.

Brin has become a reliable, helpful, member of the team, looking after new members inc his little brother. He has a bright future ahead of him in combat sports and big things are coming, watch this space

Huge congratulations to for achieving his blue belt last week

Pet first turned up to the gym over 2 years ago, inspired to come along by , he turned up with a couple of other work colleagues. Fortunately, he enjoyed his first session and began turning up infrequently when his work shift patterns would allow. Later that year, he made the effort to commit to regular sessions just as his job role meant he would be travelling for work and staying in different counties for weeks at a time. This didn't stop him from training, however, as he seeked out gyms local to the places he would be working, training at Swale Jiujitsu and

During his time on the mats Pet has shown huge development as a grappler, going from a spazzy big guy with limited cardio, to a controlled technical practioner with very good cardio, proved on the competition mats, who adjusts his style seamlessly to his match his opponents physicality. Some big guys never find that level of control when it comes to using their weight and strength to just out muscle their opponents and force technique, but that's far from the case with Pet who will focus on his technique with smaller, less experienced sparing partners

Over the last couple of years, Pet has competed regularly at a number of competitions, picking up medals and podiums along the way, and demonstrating his improvement as an athlete

This is now the first step to Purple belt for our favourite Bulgarian powerhouse. Keep up the good work

Throw back to December and another Christmas party in the bag 🎄

We started the festivities with our Christmas seminar with and . Once again a great seminar, using a series of constraints based games throughout to assist the guys with their takedowns from single legs, to quad pod, turtle to pin. Really well structured and planned once again and plenty for us to use in training going forward.

We then headed off to for our evening meal. Once again, amazing food as always, best place to eat when you're visiting Arundel.

Before desert, the secret Santa proved entertaining, some interesting presents and a new wrestling singlet for . .rees probably did the best with his present, gifting .holmes with a winning scratch card. £50,000 and £5 later, it turned one of them was fake.

Then we all headed back to for more drinking and socialising. Unfortunately, no photos this year, too much alcohol had been consumed by that point

Great turn out once again, albeit with a few of pull outs due to the illness. Doubled the numbers from last year as the club continues to grow. Next stop 2025 and an updated schedule. More big plans for the year ahead

That’s right, on 12th October, LA Grapplers are back hosting our second sub only competition. 🔥

Our first sub only was a massive hit. This time round, we’re only aiming higher, Smoothcomp entry so your wins will go on record, two weight categories, modified EBI rules, medals and prizes to be won, you won’t want to miss it

This will be a nogi only event with tournaments and superfights. We will be run tournaments in whitebelt under 85kg and over 85kg, also blue belt under 85kg and over 85kg. White and Blue belts can sign up to these tournaments through our Smoothcomp page

Purple, Brown and Black belts will be matched up in superfights and entry will be free.
