It is Drowning Prevention Week! Hosted by Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK
Here at Your Trust we host a Junior Lifeguarding Academy.
It is a survival and rescue training programme that covers lifeguarding skills, sea safety and awareness, distance swimming, sports skills, and health and wellbeing.
The programme promotes safe self rescue, age-appropriate peer-assisted rescue, first aid and overall water safety.
This programme will be running over the summer holidays at Heywood Sports Village, Middleton Arena and Rochdale Leisure Centre, so please keep a look out on our social media for more information and details of how to book once booking opens.
Make sure your child knows and understand the Water Safety Code this summer.
Always follow the Water Safety Code.
1. Stop and Think - assess your surroundings, look for any dangers and always research local signs and advice
2. Stay Together - always go with friends or family, it is best to swim at a lifeguarded venue
3. Call 999 - ask for the Fire and Rescue Service when inland (lakes, rivers etc.) and the Coastguard if at the coast. Do not enter the water to rescue.
4. Float to Survive - if you fall in or become tried - stay calm, float on your back and call for help. Throw something that floats to somebody that has fallen in.
Drowning is preventable.
