🥾 Rilla Mill to Plushabridge

Yesterday, the club headed north to the small village of Rilla Mill, and what a day for it! ☀️We were well and truly blessed with some late-summer sun for our hike.

The route itself wasn't too demanding, but there were a couple of steep bits and many stiles to climb over. We hiked through lots of fields, stopped for lunch by the river, traversed along a farm gate to avoid the mud (that was fun) and did some sneaking past the cows.

The wet weather recently has already started putting the green back into everything, so the countryside is looking close to its best once more. Let’s just hope the sun decides to stick around for our next adventure, Seaton to Millendreath! 🤞☀️

The club’s end of season is looming (where has the time gone?!), but we’ve still got some great hikes remaining including Brown W***y, Helman Tor and the South West Coast path.
So, dust off those boots, grab your waterproofs, and come and join us🐄

Its been 333 days since it last rained on a club hike. Will this weekend break that streak? Place your bets!

Next Saturday-

Starting from the village of Rilla Mill, this hike passes through scenic Cornish countryside and small villages, with some great views of Bodmin Moor. Along the way we walk beside the River Lynher, pass through peaceful woodland, cross open farmland and wildflower meadows, before making our way back to the start.

The route includes multiple stiles, several short but steep sections, and narrow bridges over streams. We may also encounter livestock.

You can park along the road in the village, or there is a free car park at the end of Woodland Rise (the cul-de-sac behind the village hall).

Distance: Approx. 6.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous

There are no public toilets, but there is a pub at the starting point.
This hike begins from the village hall

Maddacleave to Morwell Rock

Yesterday, 24 of us set off on a scenic hike through the beautiful Tamar Valley. Along the way we enjoyed stunning views over the winding river, explored some rich and fascinating mining history, had a well-earned pint in the historic museum – and best of all, we got to hike with a wonderful bunch of people. ❤️

Many thanks to Ian, Sue, Nicky and Carl for getting us there and back safely, and to Heidi for most of the brilliant photos.

Our next hike is in two weeks’ time, when we’ll be heading to picturesque Rilla Mill for a relaxing countryside adventure. It marks the start of the final five hikes of the year before the club closes for the winter. 🐄

Next Saturday 22/08/26

This hike is a scenic woodland and riverside route through the steep, wooded slopes of the River Tamar. Following tracks and a nature trail through Maddacleave Wood, we pass old abandoned mines and disused waterways before reaching Morwell Rocks with its great views across the valley.

After a stop to admire the view, we then descend along the trail until we reach the river, where we shall stop for lunch. Once recharged, we shall head along the river, passing many historical points of interest, before making the climb up the hill back to the start point.

There is a pub/shop/toilets at the halfway point.

We did it! This afternoon the club summited the highest point in the South of England (High Willhays). It was tough going in places today, trying to avoid the bogs and finding paths in the ferns.... BUT everyone did absolutely amazing and you should all pat yourselves on the back. Top hiking! 👏🐄
