Liskeard Inclusive Badminton is a Badminton England and Special Olympic affiliated Club where we run multiple sessions at Liskeard Leisure Centre.

On Thursdays between 6pm - 6.45pm, we run a Special Olympic and Paralympic session. These weekly sessions allow individuals to learn or develop badminton skills in a quieter/more supported environment, with coaches and assistants who can adapt sessions to suit you/the individual.

We currently have a couple of spaces in these sessions. If you or someone you support is looking to play badminton or would like to try something new or develop skills further, please contact us through the contacts below. First session is free!

In the past some individuals have used these sessions as a stepping stone to joining other sessions within the Club, while others enjoy games and having fun while improving skills such as co-ordination. This year one of our players thoroughly enjoyed competing in her first South West Disability Tournament after coming to our sessions for several years. Another one of our Club players is hoping to play in the Special Olympics in Chile next year, while other players enjoy coming along to do something active.

END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT 2026.

On Monday we had our 7th club tournament at Liskeard Leisure Centre. These tournaments are held at the end of each term playing for the prestigious Alistair McDonald Plate. We were delighted to have Jean and Andrew McDonald with us to present the plate to the winners. 32 players took to the courts many clad in fancy dress! The theme being ‘The Movies’. There were some great outfits with Neil edging the overall victory mainly for playing the whole tournament in a cape! Congratulations and well done to Neil. 16 pairings within 4 groups all playing each other on a round robin basis with the top two going through to the knock out stages of the main draw and the bottom two going through to a knock out plate. Great sportsmanship shown as always with this fantastic group of players with plenty of enthusiasm despite the heat! The Alistair McDonald plate was won by Connor and Gene with runners up being David and Ollie. 3rd place to John S and Kerensa and John D and Syd 4th place. The plate event was won by Nikki and Mike with runners up Debbie and Neil. A big thank you to Jess for running a very efficient tournament table as always, John D for bringing his lifesaving ice pops to keep us all cool, Liz and Claire for running the raffle, Julian Cooper Chairman of Cornwall County Badminton Association and also the President of the Plymouth & District League for judging the fancy dress and presenting the Jenny Marchant Player’s Player award 2026 voted for by the players. The 2026 recipient was a well deserved David Goodeve - well done Dave! Our next Club tournament will be at Christmas when we will do it all again. The club will continue to play through the summer holidays on a Monday 6-8pm starting from Monday 20 July returning to full sessions at the beginning of September and the beginning of the match season!

On Thursday we had our last planned friendly against the Devonport Dragonflies! We had some really great games with some epic shots from all! The Devonport Dragonflies were really struggling in the heat of our hall, but were really good sports still.🫶 Liskeard Ladybugs won 6-0.

Thank you Coach Jess, Kerensa and John D for playing in the friendly today, and Claire for organising the courts! Thanks to Sam R as well for being ready to step in if we had any injuries. 🙌

We played using the new 15 point BO3 format that we will see in the league next season, which was different. Cons: Not as much Badminton. Pros: Not as much Badminton (in the oven hall we had today!) 😅 Report by: Captain Dave!

On Thursday we had the pleasure of welcoming Crafthole Badminton Club to join us for an inter-club meet and play. Everyone from both clubs enjoyed the night despite the high temperature. 🥵 We had a great turn out from both clubs with 27 players in total. There was lots of games and laughs and we look forward to potential future games.

We have one last friendly match against Devonport next Thursday which we are looking forward to and we mustn't forget our end of term tournament on Monday where we will again play for the prestigious Alistair McDonald Plate, which always provides great fun, good games and amazing fancy dress.

Play will continue on a Monday right through the school summer holidays and into the new season in September. 😎🏸

This Monday we had our third friendly. This time the Liskeard Leopards took on the Tavyside Triceratops. This was a chance for some of the younger players from both clubs to play a friendly match. There were lots of good games with the Triceratops coming out on top. Thanks to the organisers and the Tavyside team (& parents) and to Connor (Captain), Jacob, Noah and Jago for playing. Everyone enjoyed the evening and the biscuits. We are looking forward to another friendly next Thursday against Crafthole. 🏸😃

During Monday’s Badminton session, we had another great friendly. This time the Liskeard (Limpets) were in action against the Torpoint (Tarantulas). There were lots of close games with the Tarantulas coming away with the overall victory. Thank you to those who played, especially Nikki who stepped in last minute and a big thank you must go to the organisers for another great friendly match. Sadly, the Limpets were slow to take a photo which doesn’t include crucial team players Ayla and Nikki! 😫 It was a fun evening. We are looking forward to our upcoming friendlies against Tavyside and Crafthole.

Monday evening’s badminton session saw Liskeard (Lions) having a great off season friendly with Tavyside (Tigers) from Tavistock. All games were hard fought and it was a close run score. Thank you to Tavyside for the games and thanks to those who organised it and played. Tavyside will be returning for another friendly in a couple of weeks. We look forward to this and our other up coming friendlies with both Torpoint and Crafthole. 🏸😁

MATCH REPORT 25/26 SEASON

Our competition season in the Plymouth & District Badminton Leagues has drawn to a close and what a season it has been. With 9 teams hitting the courts plus the Beckly Cup Team, it has been a massive effort by our captains and match secretaries to fulfil all fixtures. All fixtures were met with no penalties incurred showing massive commitment on the part of our players. With 4 Open Teams, 2 Ladies Teams, 3 Medley Teams and a Beckly Cup Team who reached the final of this knock out competition, it is definitely worth recognising the achievement in fulfilling all fixtures without the need to play void players, proving the depth and commitment within the club of its players and officials. Strict nomination rules apply for being able to play within a team, adding to the complexity of ensuring a team doesn’t incur penalties. A huge well done to those involved with the organisation of this and a big thank you must go to the Plymouth and District Badminton League for their hard work running the League, Liskeard Leisure Centre for providing excellent facilities for our home matches and to all our players who have been just truly amazing!
