Broomhedge 4-0 Lisburn Youth

The first team had their final game of the season at home to Lisburn Youth. The boys started the game well, and took the lead in the 4th minute when Nathan Bradford cushioned a header into the path of Andrew McMurray, whose diving header found the bottom corner. A period of extended pressure resulted in the boys doubling their lead, when some fantastic footwork from Adam Hamilton created space for him to play a terrific ball across the box to Tyler English, who fired it home. We started the second half with constant pressure, which paid off in 61st minute when Matty Mawhinney’s looping shot from a wide area, found the back of the net. The boys made it 4-0 10 minutes later, when Andrew McMurray latched onto a through ball and slotted it past the keeper. A brilliant performance to finish off a great season for the boys.

Broomhedge 4-0 Dungannon Rovers

The first team were home to Dungannon Rovers, looking to make amends after our first league defeat in 9 games to league winners Cookstown on Saturday. We were up against it from the start with goalkeeper Ross Morrow picking up an injury in the warm up. The ever reliable Peter McKane, who was due to start up top, added goalkeeper to the long list of positions he’s played this season. The boys started the game well and missed a few early chances, before Ethan Hamilton played a pinpoint ball across the face of goal, for Jonny Glasgow to tap in. Jonny then doubled his tally when a Matty Mawhinney corner fell at his feet at the edge of the 6 yard box. We started the second half positively and scored our third goal after just 4 minutes, when some fantastic high pressing from Ben Lindsay allowed him to beat the Dungannon keeper to a long ball and fire into the bottom corner. We kept up the pressure and made it 4-0 when Matty Mawhinney converted a penalty, after Ben Lindsay was brought down in the box. Massive thank you to Peter McKane for jumping between the sticks and keeping a clean sheet.

Shout out to Harry Davidson who made his long awaited debut for the club, after being sidelined for over a year with a knee injury. Another big game on Saturday against local rivals Moira Albion, all support welcome⚽️💪

Broomhedge 6-2 Armagh Blues

Broomhedge were at home to Armagh Blues, looking to keep up an excellent run of form. We started the game well and missed a couple of chances before Johnny Glasgow was brought down in the box by the Armagh keeper. As always, Matty Mawhinney slotted the penalty home to make it 1-0. Armagh equalised 2 minutes later when a lapse in concentration allowed a free header at the back post. The boys reacted well and continued to dominate, and once again took the lead when Johnny Glasgow rifled one into the bottom right corner from distance. We started the second half as we finished the first, with complete control. It only took 4 minutes for the Broom to score a third, when a delightful through ball from Johnny Glasgow found Peter McKane, who scored with his second touch of the ball after coming on at half time. Peter scored his second goal 8 minutes later, when a nice passage of play left Johnny Glasgow through against the keeper, who unselfishly squared it to Peter for a tap in. Peter McKane finished off his hattrick when he instinctively closed down the Armagh keeper, who spilled the ball into his path for a simple finish. Armagh got a consolation goal in the 75th minute after a misjudgement at the back allowed their right winger to get clean through. Once again the Broom struck back, with a superb long range strike from Jude Devlin. A dominating performance from the boys, with some fantastic football being played. Onto the next one💪⚽️

Broomhedge 4-2 Magheralin

The boys got off to a flying start scoring 2 goals in the first 2 minutes. Johnny Glasgow opened the scoring when a flick on from Nathan Bradford found Adam Hamilton, whose shot was parried by the Magheralin keeper into the path of Johnny Glasgow. The lead was doubled when a scramble in the Magheralin box fell to Ben Lindsay, who fired home. Broomhedge took the foot off the gas and Magheralin got a goal back when a counter attack was finished off by their striker. The boys started the second half playing good football and made it 3-1 in the 51st minute when a delightful long ball from Dylan Devlin found Adam Hamilton, who calmly slotted it past the keeper. Magheralin got a goal back soon after when a long throw was headed into our own net by a Broomhedge player. Broomhedge made it 4-2 when a long ball from Luke Holden was latched onto by Andrew McMurray, who pulled off a sublime lob over the Magheralin keeper to find the back of the net.

Overall a bit of a scrappy performance, but good to get 3 points when we were nowhere near our best. Big thanks to the Broom Ultra’s who were like a 12th man with their support from the sideline. Onto the next one💪⚽️
