Slam Finals Day!
After an unprecedented double promotion for the 1st & 2nd XI’s on Saturday, some sore heads arrived at St Andrews CC looking to make it one of the clubs most successful weekends in recent memory!
At 16-2 from 4 overs in our semi final, it was looking like it could be a short day. However on what could only be described as a ‘lively’ pitch, contributions from Hanna, Unwin, Forbes & Nazir dragged us to a competitive total of 136.
Haigh (1-14) & Hanna (2-19) got us off to the perfect start with the ball. Backed up by a brilliant performance in the field and the change bowlers, it came down to the final over with Robertsbridge requiring 13 and Fisher with the ball. Nerves of steel and a tight over followed, giving us a victory by 8 runs and a place in the final.
From here the hangovers were long forgotten and the team continued the momentum into the final. Choosing to bowl first, Haigh (3-16) & Hanna (1-19) were relentless in the first 8 overs, keeping Worthing to 37-4. With every bowler contributing, wickets for Ho**er, Farmer, Forbes and Fisher capped off an almost perfect performance in the field, bowling Worthing out for 86.
An early wobble could’ve been possible after Eason fell early (4-1), however Haigh (38) and Clarky (20) quickly took the game aware from Worthing with some counter-attacking hitting in the powerplay. Clark fell at the end of the 6th over with the score at 40-2, which brought Morton (26*) to the crease. Alongside Haigh, they made light work of the final 47 runs required, with the score knocked off inside 12 overs and Morton hitting the winning runs through midwicket to seal the deal.
A true team effort throughout the day and the perfect end to one of LCC’s finest weekends 🏆
