Sessions take place in your home, where both you and your dog can learn in a focused, distraction-free environment, and outdoors in carefully selected locations for loose lead walking, recall, confidence building, engagement work, play and real-world training. I do not offer single training sessions. Lasting behavioural change requires consistency, guidance and ongoing support. My programmes are designed for committed owners who are serious about improving their dog's behaviour and strengthening the relationship they share. As an experienced dog trainer, public speaker and holder of a PhD from the University of Melbourne, I bring a thoughtful, empathetic, analytical, and highly individual approach to every client I work with. No two dogs are the same, which is why every programme is tailored to the specific needs of both dog and owner. Lincoln is working towards becoming a top destination for dog lovers – and I’m proud that Denzels Dog Training will be part of the day.

Come and see me at the Lincoln Loves Dogs launch on Friday 18 September, at The Lawn. As the event’s only dog trainer, I will be offering dog owners a complimentary 10-minute dog training triage!

Denzel is going in for surgery on Wednesday to remove another soft-tissue sarcoma—a cancerous lump—from his foreleg. He last had a sarcoma removed in April, see video, so the thought of anaesthesia and medication again is a rough one. Anyone caring for a senior dog with a serious condition will understand that worry.
But he is not ailing. He still loves his walks, running about, food, and activities—and has plenty of enjoyment in life. Senior dogs are not necessarily moping around; many are still very much themselves.

Bulldogs get called stubborn a lot, but Beau here, is quite sensitive. If you rush her or get the timing wrong she switches off. Give her the right approach though with calmness and firmness and she gets it, no problem. Behavioural modification is supposedly about dogs, but, in all cases, it is the humans who need behavioural modification too.👍🐾

A few months ago, mini-Dachshund Button’s reactivity meant walks were stressful and outings had stopped altogether. As I often see, her reactive behaviour began when she was about 1 year old.

I could tell you my training is effective - or you could just read what Claire, Helen, Jacob and Andy have to say. 🧡

A fear-reactive Poodle. A doorbell barking and reactive mini-Dachshund. A Jack Russell who pulled like a freight train. A Cockapoo at war with the Hoover. Every one of these owners was at their wits end before we started.

September is fully booked. October is now open. 4-6 session training packages and 8 session behavioural modification programmes for more difficult cases.

Does your reactive dog bark at the fence at the dogs next door? Or go nuts when it sees a dog from the the front window where it sits - and watches... on high alert. Your dog is practising the same reactive behaviour you are dealing with on walks! You'll have to start work on it inside if you want to improve things outside!

"Bulldogs are stubborn." "You can't train a Bulldog." I hear it all the time.

Beau's dad contacted me urgently because home life had gotten really hard. Constant barking, pushy demanding behaviour, her people ending up arguing over it, and a senior dog in the house feeling the strain too.

Today - Saturday - was session two. session 1 was Wednesday evening.

I rang the doorbell. No noise. No barking, no charging at the door. Beau was on a dog bed in the living room with her new toy. Later, we were all in the kitchen when the postman rang the bell and she didn't budge from her spot under the table, just carried on holding her toy.

That's real world progress.

Beau has stopped lunging at the watering to chomp on it, she's left the metal washing line post alone too, and settles nicely inside. She's got a Sit and the clicker tells her "Yes, that's right" and she gets a piece of apple. She's worked out that good choices pay.

Beau is hilarious too. Today she demolished apple and watermelon, then spat out a blueberry in absolute disgust. 😂

This bulldog isn't stupid and she isn't stubborn. She's a clever dog who's never been shown what to do and what to stop doing. Give her guidance, make it worth her while, and she's happy to learn.

That's what behavioural modification work is. Not squashing the behaviour, but looking at the whole dog: how she feels, her home, her history, the people around her, then building a plan that works day to day.

Still plenty to do. There's a short 3 night kennel stay coming up and her upset and stress in the car will need careful work. But this little (!) Bulldog is already making the point: dogs aren't difficult because of their breed. Sometimes nobody's shown them what to do yet.
