So after the first race of 2026 I will give my opinion on the new era of F1.

The new cars are great. They show some real promise. Especially with the active aero. They are also a lot more agile at low speeds and not so dependant on downforce to make their laptime.

The engines however are a different story.

Every overtake felt fake as it was just a case of who had more battery power and where. It was just a press boost to pass. Worse than even DRS. I also think getting rid of the MGU H was a big mistake in terms of both performance and eco friendly racing. I think there needs to be a major revision of the engine rules.

For a completely new car it performed quite well considering. Looking forward to seeing what the Supra can do at Bathurst later in the year.

Interesting concept from Ferrari at the testing.

Flipping the wing around to show the trailing edge, the thinner part of the wing, to the air and thus reduce drag even further. This does have the downside that as it is upside down it will start to make lift like a plane wing but there are several bright minds working for Ferrari so I am sure they considered that months ago.

Yesterday I started learning to drive one of these monsters.

It's quite different to a car, to the point of needing a separate theory and practical test to get a licence. Still I am always up for new challenges.

The has long been seen as one of the toughest races in the world. Taking place over some of the harshest surfaces on earth.

It started as a race between Paris and Dakar in Senegal. This was then moved to South America and now more recently Saudi Arabia.

Its always been a big test of both cars and drivers in the most unforgiving conditions.

I have always had a philosophy when it comes to practice.

You will never learn anything if you just do laps around a track with no real objective, nothing you hope to learn.

This is why I focus my practice sessions on stuff I want to improve, both on the track and on the sim.

I use rallycross as a way to practice close quarters racing and car control. It is the perfect setting with rallycross being famous for its super close racing to the point of banging doors and the mix of surfaces to test your car control. Learning when I can make that dive without writing off the car and when I can't. Even though contact is common in rallycross, I still try to avoid it as I am after all hoping to apply what I learn to longer races where damage that might survive a short rallycross race can put you out of a longer race.

Very pleased to see is back on the calendar.

Having raced there myself I can say that it is an extremely fun circuit with some unique challenges.

The dips and hills in the middle of the circuit make for a very interesting lap.

As always I have to give my thanks to my partners at for the amazing support they gave me this year.
