A late round-up of results this week as we’ve waited for all the facts and figures from the weekend’s matches to trickle in.
A mixed bag weekend, with three matches played, with one victory and two losses in the bag.
Beginning with the positive, our women’s Super 8s hardball team picked up their first win of the season, beating Louth by nine runs in a good match away at Louth.
Bowling first, eight wickets shared around the bowlers saw us keep Louth to 279/8 from 16 overs, Leonie Spittles leading the line with 3/23 from four overs.
The run chase was steady, but under control and eventually bought home by a good partnership between the experienced heads of Lydia Hopton (24*) and Helen Plaskett (13*).
It’s been a tough start to the season for the squad, who lost their first game on Sunday by 94 runs to a strong Broughton side, but to follow that up with a victory is a great achievement, and hopefully the team will build from there going forward for the rest of the summer.
Meanwhile, our men welcomed Bracebridge Heath 2nds to the SCG, for a league match.
Having chosen to bat first, the guys gradually built a total of 152/8 from 40 overs, built around 35 from Aled David and a quick fire 38 from Harvey Melladay.
152 seemed like a decent target, however some very good batting from the young Bracebridge side saw them reach the total required only three wickets down, inside 33 overs.
The bowlers gave it their all, but the breakthroughs just didn’t come regularly enough.
Unfortunately, this continued a frustrating start to the season for our men who’ve only picked up one league win so far this summer.
