A late round-up of results this week as we’ve waited for all the facts and figures from the weekend’s matches to trickle in.

A mixed bag weekend, with three matches played, with one victory and two losses in the bag.

Beginning with the positive, our women’s Super 8s hardball team picked up their first win of the season, beating Louth by nine runs in a good match away at Louth.

Bowling first, eight wickets shared around the bowlers saw us keep Louth to 279/8 from 16 overs, Leonie Spittles leading the line with 3/23 from four overs.

The run chase was steady, but under control and eventually bought home by a good partnership between the experienced heads of Lydia Hopton (24*) and Helen Plaskett (13*).

It’s been a tough start to the season for the squad, who lost their first game on Sunday by 94 runs to a strong Broughton side, but to follow that up with a victory is a great achievement, and hopefully the team will build from there going forward for the rest of the summer.

Meanwhile, our men welcomed Bracebridge Heath 2nds to the SCG, for a league match.

Having chosen to bat first, the guys gradually built a total of 152/8 from 40 overs, built around 35 from Aled David and a quick fire 38 from Harvey Melladay.

152 seemed like a decent target, however some very good batting from the young Bracebridge side saw them reach the total required only three wickets down, inside 33 overs.
The bowlers gave it their all, but the breakthroughs just didn’t come regularly enough.

Unfortunately, this continued a frustrating start to the season for our men who’ve only picked up one league win so far this summer.

🏏 Preview: Triple Match Day 🏏
A busy day for the whole club tomorrow, with three matches for two teams, as our men’s Sunday team welcomes Bracebridge Heath Cricket Club 2nds to the SCG, while our Women’s Super 8s Hard Ball team heads to Louth Cricket Club Ladies Team to take on the hosts and Broughton Cricket Club - Lincs in two matches.

First up, it’s the continuation of the men’s Sunday league campaign from 1pm, as they try to get their season back on track following a heavy defeat at Carholme last weekend.

Three changes to the side this week, as Paul Dewey and Harvey Melladay return to the side for their second Sunday matches of the season, while Colin Green makes his first Sunday start of the new Saxilby CC era, following a long injury layoff.

The Saxilby Sports Hub bar will be open tomorrow afternoon, so it’d be great to see a good crowd supporting the guys if you’re free.

Meanwhile, our women are searching for their first hard ball victory of the summer after a tricky start to the campaign.

They’ll take on Broughton from 3pm, followed straight away by the match against Louth from 5pm.

Four changes to the squad for tomorrow, as Jenna Scully takes the keeper’s gloves in her first hard ball match of the summer, while Faye Barnes, Georgia Smithson and Leonie Spittles also all return to the lineup.

It’s a long trip for the squad, and if anyone is able to make the trip and support, they’d be very grateful.

A big day tomorrow, let’s hope for some good points on the board come the end of the day 🤞

🏏 Preview 🏏
Another away trip for our Midweek 1sts tonight, as they face the tough challenge of Market Rasen 1sts in the Midweek league.

Following a tough match away at Nettleham last week, the guys will be looking to improve things this evening, should the weather allow.

Four changes to the side tonight, as Harvey Melladay and Sullivan Pearson both return to bolster the bowling attack, while Liam Scully returns to take the keeper’s gloves again and bowler Harvey Woolley makes his first start for the 1sts.

Tonight’s match starts at 18.15.
If you’re coming along, we’ll see you there.
Should the weather intervene, we’ll update as soon as possible.

A bad day at the office for our Sunday team yesterday, as they were heavily beaten by Carholme.

Having been asked to field first, a litany of errors in the field, including a number of dropped catches, saw Carholme rack up 218/7 from their 40 overs.
Chibi Anandarajah led the way with the ball, taking 3/34 from his eight overs.

The run chase never really got going, with wickets falling regularly throughout the innings and runs never flowing.
Unfortunately, the innings came to a close after 29.2 overs, with just 72 runs on the board.

Not the day we hoped for, with plenty to be worked on at training over the next few weeks to improve.
The season hasn’t started how we hoped it would, but there’s still plenty of time to improve and turn things around…

🏏 Preview 🏏
A short trip for our Sunday team today, as they head to Carholme Cricket Club for another Lincoln and District League fixture.

After a week off following a good win at Lindum, the squad will be looking to pick up the momentum again quickly at what is always a tricky place to visit.

Two changes to the side today, as opening batsman Tommy Parker returns to the top of the order alongside strike bowler Chibi Anandarajah, who bolsters the bowling attack.

Today’s match starts at 1pm, if you’re able to make the short trip to West Common, it’d be great to see you there!

Thank you to club sponsors Lakeside Financial, Richard Betts Painters and Decorators, JM Automotive and Agrigem for their continued support of the club. 🏏
