A Strong Weekend for SJC at York! 🏆
Saturday: Seniors & Veterans
Saturday saw Jacob and Rohan take to the mats, supported by Coach Jo. Following a series of strong performances, Jacob secured a hard-earned Silver medal, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Rohan started with great intent and fought well, but just missed out on a podium finish on this occasion.

Sunday: The Dan Grading
Rohan returned to the mats on Sunday for the Dan Grading, with Jo matside once again. He put on an exceptional performance, going unbeaten across 4 fights - reeling in 3 Ippon wins and a draw. Unfortunately, there were no official lineups running on the day to make an attempt at securing his 2nd Dan in one go, but it was a fantastic outing nonetheless.

A massive congratulations to Jacob and Rohan for representing the club so well, and a huge thank you to Jo for her relentless coaching and support across the entire weekend.

Finding Your Feet: Week 1 Complete!
Yesterday marked the beginning of our new 6-week block, thank you to everyone who came along and took that fantastic first step with us.

This programme is specifically designed to focus on gentle movement, improving mobility, and building confidence at your own comfortable pace in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Missed the first session? Please do not worry.
There is no strict closing date for registration. Our doors are always open, and you are very welcome to join the group whenever you feel ready. Whether you would like to start next week or later in the course, we would be delighted to have you.

This weekend some of the SJC team ventured to Northampton to compete. It was a great event with some good fighters. It was a step up for some of the team and they all rose to the occasion. We learnt lots and have some great stuff to work on as we keep moving forward. Again all the coaches are super proud of what you achieved and the fact that you all worked hard and listened to what Matt and Terri were telling you during your matches. 14 medals brought home by 11 competitors 💪🏻

A great weekend of competition over at Judo Spirit Academy. Starting on Saturday with our under 8s, and finishing today with our over 8s competing.

Everyone represented the club extremely well and did themselves and all the coaches proud. All the team gave it their all with this being the first judo competition for several of our players.

It was great to see all of the things we have been working on being applied successfully in a competition environment.

Thanks to Joe and the team at Spirit, we look forward to supporting future events.

SJC is looking forward to being able to support the wider community with the introduction of “Finding Your Feet” - a course designed to utilise Judo technique to help support people over the age of 65 to reduce the fear of falling, as well as mitigating the injury if a fall should happen.

With falls being the number one reason older people are taken to A&E, FYF aims to reduce that statistic by both supplying people with the knowledge of what to do when you fall, but also reducing the fear of falling (which in itself has a knock-on effect to a reduced mobility), breaking the cycle, and empowering people to be able to be active for longer.

We have the hall booked and our first 6-week block starts on the 28th of May. Sessions are £5.
