The Sad News has made it around boxing circles and Ligoniel Village that Eddie O'Neill has passed away, to be buried at 9am Saturday 31st August 2019 in St Vincent De Paul Church in Ligoniel Village. Eddie was a coach and lead volunteer at the Boxing Club for more than 34 years.

Eddie joined Head Coach Sean McAuley, and many volunteers over the years in helping refurbish a condemned building to one of the best boxing gyms in the whole of Belfast.

Eddie was known for having a loud voice as he called last half, last ten and time for the rounds. He barked instructions around the club, ensuring members paid their fees, toed the line and respected the club and its rules. He was always upbeat and positive and had a great sense of humour.

Outside of the club, Eddie was one of Ligoniel's big characters, an excellent footballer in his day, he loved the simple life looking after his extended family.

In the later stages of his life he found love with his partner Mary, who brought much happiness to his life, completing him as a person.

Failing health eventually influenced Eddie's ability to stay active within the club. He retired from Volunteering and experienced on-going health issues before his death at the age of 76.

Ligoniel ABC offers it's sincere appreciation of all Eddie did at the club, and extend much sympathy to Mary and the extended family who loved Eddie.
