Aysgarth falls is a lovely tourist destination in the Yorkshire dales. There is ample parking in and around the falls, with some nice long walkies. We went here summer 2019.

Doggy Friendly - 5 Waggy tails - Nearly, if not all, the shops in and around the falls are dog friendly. They all have doggy bowls outside, and when I was bought an ice cream nobody laughed, it was clearly something they are used to. All the staff at the shops fussed me when they could, and I felt very welcome.

Doggy Activities - 5 Waggy Tails. - there are lots of walkies for me to enjoy, but also paddling in the water! This is me and my human having a dip at the top fall. As you can see by the second photo, the water was running fast. It was just after the floods, which helped the beauty of the falls, with rushing torrents of water.

Human stuff - Food and Drink - 3 stars - There are some lovely little cafes and ice cream shops in and around the falls. We did not venture up to the hotel, and had we of done, it may rise(or fall) depending on the quality of the food.

Activities - 4 stars - At the top falls there is a lovely space to have a picnic should you wish. The gift shop has everything Yorkshire Dales in it, from Wensleydale cheeses, to Cycling Jerseys, and the other little shops in and around, with gifts and nic nacs are lovely. There are again, lots of lovely walks in and around the falls, and the wildlife and nature is beautiful. Having been previously, I would advise, if possible, going after some heavier rain, as this makes the waterfalls look more spectacular.

Well worth a visit, even on its own, drive up for the day, and enjoy the views.

The Station Inn

We last visited here in the summer of 2019. It was just after the floods in North Yorkshire, and the water had been contaminated. This meant that we could not have ice in our drinks. That is the only negative we can write about this place. We did not stay here, only ate, and therefore the review will be based on that.

Dog friendliness - 5 Waggy tails - there was nowhere I was not allowed to go in the pub area. The barman and waiting staff were all extremely friendly to me, giving me fuss. Unfortunately, as stated above, I could not have any water, but thankfully my humans had a spare bottle of water. This was not the pubs fault

Doggy activitives - 4 waggy tails - We had just walked up and down Whernside. To be honest, I was just tired.

Human stuff - food and drink - 4 stars - The drink selection was varied, with Real Ale, Crabbies Ginger beer and all the usual suspects you would expect to find. The food was excellent, however, as Benji has just pointed out, we had just completed Whernside, and I think anything would have tasted good at that moment in time.

Cleanliness - 5 stars - despite all water being used having to be boiled prior to use, the pub and toliets were immaculate. Our boots, having been on the hills all day were probably the dirtiest thing in there.

Again if in the area, well worth a visit. Will be returning when we go walking again.

Old Hill Inn

We last visited the Old Hill Inn summer 2019.

Dog friendliness - 3 waggy tails - in the old building which it is situated, there isn't much room for a Labrador like me. But the hard stone floor(something I prefer) was easy to walk on, and the staff were friendly enough, bringing me a bowl of water and fuss.

Doggy activities - 4 Waggy tails - It's in the valley between Whernside and Inglebrough. There are lots of long walkies for me to enjoy.

Human Stuff - Food and Drink - 4 Stars - The food was really nice, although the choice was not massive. What was incredible however, were the deserts. By foolish error, we did not take a photo, although I am not sure a photo would do it justice. They had three or four handpull real ales, and a variety of Gins.

Facilities - Onsite camping - We did not use the onsite camping here, as we were staying at Philpin farm, around a 5 min walk away. The field looked clean enough, and they had electric hookups, something that Philpin did not. They did however cater to Caravans, again where Philpin did not.

Its a lovely country pub. Whether stopping for a quick drink whilst doing the three peaks, or simply going for dinner whilst in the area, it is somewhere I recommend visiting.

Philpin Farm Campsite

We stayed here in the summer of 2019 and we intend, whenever we get back to walking the three peaks, to stay here again.

Dog Friendly Facilities - 5 Waggy tails - There was no where I wasn't allowed where humans were allowed.
Staff friendliness - 5 Waggy tails - Despite being a working farm, the owners still came around after a bit of rain to ensure we were all ok, they were very pleasant and we just as concerned with my welfare as my humans.
Doggy Activities - 4 Waggy Tails - We can walk for miles. In the shaddow of Whernside and at the foot of "the stairs" there is plently of walkies to be had. Two nearby pubs - the old hill inn and the station up by Ribblehead, are both dog friendly, and the food is excellent. However, the nearest attraction other than walking and food, the White Scar Caves, are not Dog friendly.

Human Facilities - 4 Stars - If you are a regular walker, you ask for simple things. A warm, clean shower room to wash after a day on the hills. Philpin Farm provides just this. The showers had concrete floors, which although may sound uncomfortable, allowed for easy cleaning, ensuring that no matter how wet and mud it was outside, the showers were always spotless. There is a barn for if the weather turns really sour, and during the day the farm runs a small shop for walkers and campers alike. They do not have electric hook ups for the pitches, and it is a tent only site. The only negative I can have of site is not of their doing. The site is on a hill, with tents pitched at the top of the hill and bottom. The water drains easily enough, there is a small beck at the bottom of it, but it is a rather steep climb with camping equipment when you are setting up. You cannot drive your car onto the field.

Stuff to do - 4 Stars - If its walking in the hills that you enjoy, you cannot do better than stay here. The resturants at the old hill inn just up the road, or a steady walk to Ribblehead Viaduct for the Station is always a good time. They are large enough to fit comfortably a table of six and a dog. In the town of Ingleton, there is the falls, but you can also wade through the river Doe(see the picture of Benji), and finally, if struggling to entertain the kids(no matter how big they are) there is the Ingleton Outdoor Swimming Pool, which dogs can be inside of the complex so long as they are sat with at all times.

All in all, if you are an avid walker and don't mind living without the luxuries of modern living for a couple of days, Philpin Farm is a welcoming and rugged campsite, ideal for adults and familes alike.

Budle Bay Campsite

We have stayed here, and on the same pitch by request twice. Our last visit was May 2019. We did not use the electric hook up, so cannot comment.

Doggy Facilities - 3 Waggy tails - Although the walks around the area are nice, there is little for Dogs to do onsite. Extended leads/stakes in the ground is an expectation(We actually tied him to a tree whilst in and around our tent), but there is no dog run area to burn off that excess energy.

Staff friendliness - 4 Waggy tails - As with many outdoorsy people, the staff are more than friendly to Benji whenever they see him.

Human stuff
Value for money - 4 stars - It is relatively cheap, considering the facilities on site. We have used it twice and cannot find a complaint. You pay for the size of the plot you feel would suit you, so measure your tent and work it out.
Facilities - 4 stars - The showers are kept regularly clean and are always warm. There are some Mudflats just outside the campsite in Budle Bay itself. Whilst Benji came out as clean as he went in, his human did not. Despite this, the showers were more than up to the challenge of cleaning him off, whilst the drainage was well kept in that nothing clogged up. There are onsite wash facilities for plates and pans too, and freezers for Ice blocks. Onsite fires are allowed, but of course off ground, safety first.
Location - 3 stars - Its around 3 to 4 miles to Bamburgh going south on the coastal road and slightly isolated. This may be of benefit to some but not others. There is nothing in Budle except a couple of houses. The nearest shops are either Bamburgh or Belford, around four miles away. There is a shop onsite, but obviously this will not have everything needed.

Would we stay at Budle Bay campsite again? Absolutely. Its great value for money, and if you don't mind a walk or a short drive, you are everywhere you need to be within a short space of time

The Black Swan Hotel

We have visited the Black Swan in Belford twice now, and the second time we took some friends with us. Our last visit was May 2019

Dog Friendly Facilities - 4 Waggy tails - As you enter the bar area, there is a nice open fire which Benji enjoyed curling up in front of. It's hard floor(something which benji prefers) so he is happy. The only negative is, its possibly quite cramped, which, thankfully our dog isn't adverse to, but may affect other dogs.

Dog Friendly staff - 4 waggy tails - The first year we went, we did not sit in front of the fire, but in the bar to the right hand side. This was also cosy, but the barstaff did their best to accomidate us. We have a foldable water bowl that they were more than happy to fill. When food came, they spoke nicely to him, despite being a Labrador and trying to steal everyone's food.

Dog Friendly Activities - n/a - The Black Swan happened to be around four miles away from our campsite, so a nice walk in the summer sun there and back.

Humans
Staff friendliness - 5 stars - As I have already said, they tried there best to accomidate us, without booking the first time, as they could, were more than happy to help, and polite and welcoming.

Facilities and food - 3 stars - As you know, for a 5 star food rating, it has to be above and beyond. The food is lovely, warming and hearty. What is a shame is how the pub looks from the outside. When we took our friends there(Two couples and a toddler) they looked at us like we had gone mental, having raved about the good quality food. They were pleasantly suprised, but still, it made it a harder sell.

Other Facilities - A Coop. Belford is a small village in Northumberland, a good seven miles from the nearest large beach. Although a nice village, there is little to do there.

If you happen to be passing through, or anywhere in the area, it is well worth a visit to the The Black Swan Hotel. However, I would not be making specfic visits here, not for any fault of the establishment, but because there is little else to do here.

The Olde Ship Inn Seahouses

We have visited this Pub/Hotel on more than one occasion, and on both visits we were happy with our choice. Our last visit was late May 2019.
Dog Friendliness Facilities - 3 Waggy Tails - Only the outside area is dog friendly. On a nice warm summers day, it is lovely to overlook the harbour area, but when the wind blows in off the North Coast, it can be very bitter.
Dog Friendliness Staff - 3 Waggy Tails - Even in the height of summer, the staff keep watering cans full of water for you to help keep your four legged friends hydrated. Other than that, they essentially leave the dogs alone. They do not fuss them or interact with them, its more an appathy than anything else.
Puppy activities in the area - 3 Waggy tails - It's all well and good having a fantastic set up for dogs, but if there's nothing to do around there, its wasted. If long walkies on the beach, off lead and with toys is your thing, then the beach stretches miles all the way to Bamburgh. However, this is pretty much all their is to do here for your four legged friend. Most of the boats going out to the Farne Islands however, do take dogs, but due to the nesting grounds of the birds there, dogs are not allowed to disembark there(which we agree with). Aboard one of those boats is where our profile picture was taken.
Human stuff -
Food and Drink - 4 Stars - For somewhere to be five stars on our ratings, it has to be exceptional. That isn't to that the Olde Ship Inn's food isn't lovely, it just isn't that next level up. The food selection is what you would expect of a pub in the North of England coastline, large portions, full of flavour and heavily seafood. I recommend the crab salad or sandwich, which having had on more than one occasion, I can say, is excellent. Equally the choices of drinks are excellent, with everything from flavoured gins, to real ale and lager.
Facilities - 4 stars - Its small, its cramped and its traditional. And personally I like that feel. The old bar looks as if it has been there since Grace Darling did her heroic row to save the sailors back in 1838. But rather than that being a bad thing, it adds to the wonderful character and history of the place. The toilets are clean, and inside the pub, even on a windy afternoon, it is warm and cosy.
Staff friendliness - 4 stars - The barstaff were knowledgable and polite on both our trips to the Olde Ship Inn, assisting with choices for Real Ale drinkers, as well as ensuring a quick and efficent service which, due to the smaller nature of the bar space, is essential to moving people in and out.
Overall, The Olde Ship Inn Seahouses is somewhere which is lovely to visit, but slightly easier without your four legged friend
