WE'RE BACK!!

LAST NIGHT ON TNF!
The first game of Tuesday Night Football kicked off last night, slightly later than usual as we had forgotten how to put together the goals.

Putting together some goals on the pitch didn’t seem to be a problem though, as the Dark side started things off quickly with a 2 goal lead. With a couple of early game transfers due to late shows, things evened up eventually, and both teams were goal for goal, but the Dark Side held on to the lead through half time.

The Light Side were refusing to be defeated with Pete Heasman opening his goal account on Day 1, hopefully a trend of a goal per game is something to expect from last years youth team recruit.

Apart from the glorious one touch football both teams thought they were playing, the graceful dancing, diving, and tripping up over their own shadow skills were on full form from the get go, with Lloyd and Gav showing that having a winter break does slow the legs down, and aren’t being put where you think they are, lucky for them El Stadio Lewesco has a great groundsman, and in no way did the patches of long grass, bumps, puddles, or random mammal/rodent droppings, have anything to do with their want to be one with the floor.

Usual ‘groin’ injuries were picked up by Reilly and Godfrey, with the former probably pulling up a MOTM award for saving a few important chances, and at one point, with Sam Miller trying his best to ‘Suarez’ his way around the 6’+ goal keeper, Reilly was scrambling across the floor like one of those cats on youtube that has turned around to find a surprise cucumber behind them. Godfrey proving again as deadly as he is in goal (for his own team…) his ability as a defender is still something to be feared of, his steam train ability has obviously not been postponed, and there was no replacement bus service, although Lloyd may require a replacement hip.

Good run around as usual, and very entertaining to watch mostly everyone look like they had just finished the Brighton Marathon.

See you next week.

LAST WEEK ON TNF...

Last night saw us set up the ‘Sean Homewood’ way and go in sideways.

With a blue pitch sprayed up waiting for us, setting up was an easy affair, and that was the end of anything easy, god that pitch was wide.

What started with a balanced 5v5 affair, the colours and the whites were perfectly matched. Stragglers Cameron (Who arrre ya??), Lloyd and Paul brought a bit more density to the pitch, take that in whichever way you think I meant it.

With the colours staying a goal ahead for most of the game, tired legs and angry out bursts from everyone else except the Zen that is myself, the balance of power shifted towards the whites. With plenty of ‘BOOT IT PHIL’ commands from the whites, Counter attack was the plan, and it was working well.

New face Cameron brought plenty of short ball play to the Colours, but with the rest of the team lacking that finishing touch, plenty of chances were put to waste. So desperate were the attempts at times, that Nick Woollett tried to claim a goal by resorting to throwing himself in the opponents net to try and claim a goal, nice try, I fell for it at least.

The whites triumphed, but everyone walked off a winner, a good game by all!

Stand Out Players last night… John Godfrey and Phil Bennison, Godfrey coming out to clear off some of those counter attacking balls (careful) and Bennison with an incredible ability at times to turn into a Ghost. But ‘The Hand’ did prevent plenty of chances that could have been converted.

Oh and someone said ‘That Cameron kid is ok, he’s welcome back’. Official invite extended.

See you next week.

LAST TIME ON TNF...

THE BIG ONE - ROUND 1
31 March 15

Ups Vs Downs

A few turned up early to warm up and get those athletic bodies prepared for the big one, Phil ‘The Hand’ Bennison being used as a human target for everyone to have a quick bit of shooting practice pre-match, and his warm up performance brought with it confidence for the ‘UPS’ as Phil showed (as his new nickname donates) he only needs one hand to save all of the shots.

The officials turned up prepared and completely unbiased, although some whispers this morning rumour the Andy Brooke has missed the last few optician appointments, but who are we to judge. 5’o’clock was drawing near, with The UPS at a strong squad of 9 and the DOWNS short with a 6 man squad, But what’s that coming over the hill, is it a monster? Is it a monster? No. Casting his great shadow Liam Reilly jogs pitch-ward preparing for duties as centre back, just behind him looming in the great Shadow, is it a bird, is it a plane, yes you had it right the first time, it is a bird, Lloyd ‘The Swan’ Double-Barrelled Surname (only the finest have them) was ready to cause some trouble at the opposite end of the field to Liam.

5:00 KICK OFF The UPS start the game… and away goes Coslett-Hughes on a blistering (toes) run around the defence and meg’s home the opener

5:01 Penalty. Action immediately up the other end of the pitch as Plumridge hacks down Rob from Network outside of the box…. Yeah…. For a penalty. The victim taps in the spot kick.

Sean Homewood and his daps with a great individual goal brought the game to 2-1

Bringing the game to 2-2 (how the hell this happened, nobody knows)… Rob Leonard hoofs one from 30 yds, and it’s going just wide of the post… until Phil ‘No longer the hand’ Bennison, attempts a catch and instead, slaps in the distant attempt into his own net.

The swan brought the downs up to 2-3 and quickly before the break Tom levels 3-3. Breather.

A dubious off/onside Sam Wilson tucks in a goal 3-4 just after the whistle blows for play to continue, after an attempted restart hoof that was just off target by Rob Stevens… This time, Phil used both his hands.

Sean taps in his second for 4-4, quickly followed by Tom to bring the Ups ahead again at 5-4

Tired legs and a team change for Chris Ford saw the res of the game out… until Bertie Baxter with all the enthusiasm and hair products in the world rolls one passed the tired Godfrey between the sticks to end things at 6-4.

Revenge has been handed out. The UPS are triumphant.
