|Back Squats|

Over the last few weeks I’ve been doing German Volume Training once a week on a Friday when I’m a bit pushed for time. This is my first time doing this style of training and I’m loving it so far. I started on 10 sets of 8 reps and each week I add an extra rep to the set.

40kg Back Squats
11 reps x 10 sets
60secs rest in between each set

Including the warm up sets that’s a total of 190 reps. Good job I like squats

MAX PUSH UP TEST:

A goal of mine for a long, long time (probably my entire adult life) has been to do 20 ‘proper’ push ups. By ‘proper’ I mean getting my chest to touch the floor. Yesterday saw me smashing that goal! I went in aiming for 10 reps and then kept going much to my surprise.

Over the last few months, my training with has seen me building the volume each week, no maximum efforts and fairly low reps.

Last week my push up set looked like this:

4 Push Ups, rest
5 Push Ups, rest
7 Push Ups, rest
X3

Grease the Groove ~
Rather than trying to smash out a bunch of press ups in one go I like to use this method where you perform a few, crisp reps multiple times over the course of the day. It’s a method created by Pavel Tsatsouline and the idea is to improve neuromuscular efficiency. So far today I’ve done 25 reps and will aim to do about 60 by the end of the day. Every rep will have great form. Towards the end of the week I’ll be using the same approach with pull-ups.

Last training session of the year done. After enjoying all the food at Christmas and having a deload week from training, this session was never going to be easy but I always feel better for getting some movement in. I’m excited to see what 2021 brings.
