On Saturday we concluded our league campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win against Letham FC 2010's which meant we finished the season in 3rd place. At the start of the season the aim was to better last years league position and get our hands on a trophy. And after winning the Hugh McGregor trophy we comfortably hit out targets.
The season has been tough. We have again been hit with some big injuries with Oscar, Riley, Liam Speirs and Carlo all missing large chunks of the season. We have played games with 10 players, played games with 11 players and if we were lucky we managed to name a couple of subs. Some players have moved on and worst of all we lost one of our biggest supporters in wee Rab’s Opa. That hit not only me hard but the whole team. There’s been times when I have genuinely thought we wouldn’t be able to continue. However through it all this group of young men have turned up week in and week out and showed what an unbelievable bunch they are. We ask a lot of them as we know how good they can be. They sometimes half ass it at training, they wind us up, they back chat, they often think they know best but when it comes to a Saturday morning they more often than not turn up, knowing full well we are light on numbers and they work their arses off and they deliver for us.
As well as the lows we have had some massive highs. We have made some great signings that have helped us when the going got really tough. We are the 3rd best team in the league and we got our hands on our first piece of silverware and after everything that’s gone on we are all united and in a much better place than we were at the start of the season. We have 7 boys now in a pathway to the u20’s which again is a massive plus for us. The best thing about this season for me is watching these boys stick together, dig in and develop into not only a top team but also a really great bunch of young men. We now take a well deserved break but also look forward to next season. We again have set new targets and we know it will be tough but we want to better this season. We have a cracking group but we know we need to add to that. So if you or anyone you know wants to be a part of a team that’s on the up then get in contact. Open training sessions begin 30th June and we are ready to hit the ground running.
Massive thanks to all of our amazing parents grandparents, uncles, aunties, friends and everyone else that has helped get these young men all over the country to play the game we all love.
And finally a huge thanks to all our unbelievable sponsors that also help kit these boys out and contribute to everything else we are trying to do. We will have a separate shout out to them in the next week or so.
And that is a wrap. Enjoy the summer and we will see you all again soon.
