Lesmahagow Juniors FC 3 v 0 Sauchie FC.
Lesmahagow Juniors took on higher league opposition in East Premier League side Sauchie and looked comfortable from the off as they progressed to the third round of the Scottish Cup.
Gow were on the attack from the off and produced two early chances when first Dylan Collins had a shot that t was comfortably saved by the visiting keeper then strike partner Luke Barclays good work on the left ended with a low ball in that just eluded all in home red.
On 5 mins Gow had the best early chances when a good ball out from keeper Wullie Muir found Barclay on the left but this time his low ball to the back post was just missed by Robbie Duddy sliding in.
Barclay was having great success down the left and a minute later he was off again but this time his low shot was well saved by the feet of Weatherby in the Sauchie goal.
The opening goal that Gows early pressure deserved came on 11 minutes when Duddy played a good ball in to Mason Kelman who then put a great pass over the Sauchie defence that Duddy ran onto before chipping the ball over the advancing keeper from 15 yards for 1-0 to the home side.
Gow had another chance a few minutes later when another great ball from Kelman found Collins but the striker lost possession before he could get a shot away.
The visiting side went on to have a good spell in the match controlling the midfield in the process but they failed to put any real pressure on Muirs goal despite this.
As the half wore on Gow regained the upper hand and Barclay again linked up with Collins before Barclays low ball in was again cleared by the Sauchie defence, then Dale Jones and Kelman set Duddy up but his effort was comfortably saved.
Gow had the best of the latter stages of the half and created a couple of half chances before they doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when more good work from Barclay on the left ended with a shot that looked to be finding the net before it was deflected in by a Sauchie defender.
Half time
Lesmahagow Juniors 2 v 0 Sauchie FC.
The second half saw Gow pick up where they left off in the first and five minutes in they created the first of many chances when Jones and Duddy combined to set up Barclay but again the strikers shot was saved by Weatherby then after a good steal from Duddy he made good progress down the right but his low ball in was agin cut out.
Gow continued to have the best of any attacking play and Barclay and Jones both had chances but neither were taken.
In a rare attack from the visitors Muir was called into action with twenty minutes to play when he had to punch away a dangerous looking corner kick from the left.
Gow went on to regain control and again created chances first when Jones played Barclay in but his shot went over the bar then Jones again turned provider when he set Kelman clean through but his end shot went wide.
Lesmahagow wrapped the game with ten minutes to play when goos work on the left from Collins ended with a ball to the front post and substitute Luke Meikle was quickest to react and he glanced a fantastic effort into the net for 3-0.
Luke Meikle had the final chance of the game a few minutes later when he cut inside from the right but his end shot went over the crossbar.
All in all this was a great all round performance from Lesmahagow who had no failures on the day and despite manager Daryl Meikle making changes later on it didn’t weaken the team at all As they comfortably reached the third round of the competition.
