π League Champions 2026 π
And weβve only gone and won the league with one game still to play this season! Knowing a win would secure the league title, the pressure was on as we headed to Colwall.
Harry Ellis said β I won the toss and elected to bat and try to get some runs on the board!
Jack Rowsell and I opened up, but open hearing their skipper in the huddle thanking some 2s players for standing in (they had 40+ available, so not ringers I will add!), we knew it might be tough going! We started positively though and found the boundary a few times. I then snicked off for 23 and Jack was bowled quickly after for 19. Paul Davies and Ollie Bufton went about rebuilding against some tight Colwall bowling. They got us past 100 with a 50 partnership. Paul then chopped on for 22 but Ollie was still going strong and continuing his good run of form. Young George came in and played a lovely supporting role, including a lovely cover drive for 4 off his first ball. Ollie brought up another 50 for the year but was then bowled for 60... It felt like a sensible innings from Ollie, but upon looking at the scorecard he still had strike rate of 133 π George unfortunately played on for 22. Tommy Adams (26) and Ethan (14) settled things again doing well to keep us ticking over and got us to 200. Gareth Jones and Ian Jones then showed their experience and got us closer to the 250 mark before Ian fell for 15. Kington FC captain, leader, legend, Mike Ruckledge at 11 got 5* to help us up to 255. Gareth finishing on 15*. Importantly we used up 45 overs and set a good total on a wicket that was getting trickier to bat on!
In the field we were on it from ball one. Tommy in his 1st team return following a lengthy knee injury, looked like he'd not been away and was on the money. Ethan as always was equally on it from the other end and got what we could see was a crucial wicket in his 1st over. Colwall then dug in and had a good partnership but Tommy, Ethan and Paul along with everyone in the field kept the run rate in check. Tommy was really unfortunate not to get a wicket in his 9 over spell! Having seen it turn and bounce in our innings, Lucas Jones and I were licking our chops at the thought of bowling. As has been the case all year, it became the Lucas Jones show with the ball! He utilised that turn and got the set opener stumped for 74, with some smart work from Mike behind the stumps. I bowled the other set batsman from the other end. LJ then ripped through the middle order, effectively sealing the game, and showing why he's leading the league in wickets with a superb 5fer (5/32). I (3/31) picked up another and then rather selfishly was delighted to bowl the last man out to secure a 100 run win and the league title! π
Really proud of the boys and their performance under pressure. Everyone played their part against a tough side. We've come a long way since my first season where we only won a single game! The youngsters have been superb all year and the experienced players have really stepped up too and been a massive help! Looking forward to celebrating next week π»πβ
