Huge congratulations to our sixteen year old, camera-shy Rowan who, not only passed his Meteorology exam but also, completed his first Qualifying Cross Country with a flight to Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Aerodrome today. The SLF team welcomed a new fixed wing student to the fold today. Simon took to the sky in our C42a, map in hand, and experienced flying and navigating his way around the Herefordshire countryside. A great local VRP (visual reference point), above which, we must remain not below 1600ft QNH. Ever wondered what goes on down there and why the height restriction? Apparently, the High Intensity Transmissions Area (HIRTA) can transmit frequency signals strong enough to cause the brakes on passing trains to suddenly come on. So fly high, heaven knows what it could do to your aircraft electrical systems.
