Reliving the Dream !! Leigh Foundry FC are a re-established Club as of 2009 (a former Leigh League Team). We are playing in the Premier Division of the Wigan and District Amateur Football League. Since emerging the Club gained successful back to back promotions in its first 2 seasons. In our third season we

reached the 1st Division Cup final suffering defeat to the eventual champions. That season we finished a respectable 6th place in the league. Prior to the 14/15 season commencing we uprooted our beloved Butts Park pitch and gained pastures new at Siddow Park not too far away which remains our stomping ground currently. In past seasons Leigh Foundry had been hit and miss mid table team but after a reshuffle in personnel the 2016/17 this brought our most successful season to date. Silcock Cup Winners
1st Div R ups
Northern Cup finalists
Laithwaite shield Semi finalists

Back n 2010 we introduced our Reserve Team. Themselves have had their own success by winning the 3rd Division in their second attempt. Whilst in the 2nd Division the reserves had another successful campaign and gained promotion to the 1st Division. Unfortunately that is where it ended as they could not compete in the same Division as the first team and therefor disbanded. We do look to have a reserves side again in the future if the opportunity arises as we are always looking to develop our club with new players personnel and ideas. Sponsorship from local business Dale Structural Repairs
(DSR) have allowed us to do this and we remain grateful although we are always looking for additional sponsors to help us grow. Should you be an interested player or potential sponsor please get in touch via our contacts page or send us a message.

Leigh Foundry 6-3 Winstanley Warriors Dev

Boys done good today...

Scratched a side together n came away with the 3 😬πŸ’ͺ

A couple of last minute registrations got us up n running. πŸ™„

2 goals to the good early doors with Drake connecting well. His left footed strike hit top bins just inside the box leaving the keeper rooted.

He grabbed his brace from the spot moments earlier 2-0 and crusing inside 10.

A youthful and energetic Winstanley side began to press hard down the flanks. Creating problems and pinning us back eventually giving in to the pressure after catching us on the counter. A neat finish just inside the post.

2-1 at the break.

WW continued where they had left off and were starting to work the central areas well. Bringing the score level from a FK that was clipped over the top with runners wriggling free unmarked to eventually prod home from close. 2-2

A few tweaks to tidy up the MF allowed Foundry to tie down the jinky warriors middle men Simm and Keary making 2 big challenges in the heavy rain allowed the ball to be retained. Finding Emery out wide right, breaking stride and beating his man fired in a low hard strike in a dangerous area catching out WW no1 who could only parry into his net.

3-2

Lead was again doubled with Drake nodding home for his Hat-Trick.

4-2

WW not out but starting to whimper were given a life line with a delicate chip from the edge leaving Warburton stranded.

4-3

Young Jack Brown wriggled through the WW defence only to be pulled back resulting in another pen that was neatly despatched as Drake grabbed his 4th.

5-3

Game all but sewn up at this point with late comer Cairns making strides and breaking line to race clear with arguably the goal of the game with and audacious out side of the peg dip n swerved shot that beat the keeper from distance.

6-3

It was far from pretty and moons away from what were used to but a little persistence and a bit of graft got this kne over the line.

With a scratch side we'll take the 3 and move along quietly.

Simm was pulled off the couch at 1.30 to just make KO. Strolled in picked up MoM and strolled off.
He'll sleep tneet πŸ‘Œ

The lads dipped out today on the back end of a 2-1 loss Vs local lads Hag Fold.

We wasn't even at the races first half.
Miles off the pace and struggled to get going.

Second half much better but Hag Fold back line was proving hard to break down.

Unlucky not to come away with something in the end

We'll move along quietly and go again next wik

Laithwaite Shield Final πŸ†

Last hurdle for that lads this weekend in our penultimate fixture in the 24/25 Season.

With the League and league cup sewn up there's an opportunity for a clean sweep in the open cup.

It's been a good run and we now face off against the League runner ups Newburgh.

We've come away with some high scoring results against these lads this season but we think this one might be a little different.

One last push for the boys let's hope for the best outcome they have done well regardless of the outcome πŸ‘πŸ†πŸ†

Any support will be greatly appreciated πŸ‘

Mike Taylor Trophy winners πŸ†

A hard fought contest against a busy East Leigh A.F.C saw us come out the other end. Commiserations to our opponents who have been fierce competitors all season.

EL started well and took an early lead after a throwing was cleared in the 6 yard box. Nicholson launching long as the ball struck an unknown EL forward who jumped to block. With much fortune and unbeknown to the EL player the ball looped to the far corner for 1-0. Just one of those freakish goals.

EL had a good opening 20 minute spell and with LF struggling to get a foothold on the game.

Game was tied with some great play down the left several LF players involved moved the ball sort and sharp with neat 1-2s Gunning pulling the ball back for Shepherd to hit a low and hard stroke beating the keeper well from just outside the box. 1-1

LF now getting to grips and playing good stuff using both flanks to good affect.

LF second goal came not to long after young Cal Harvey breaking free from his marker and closing in on goal a great little run. Spotting the unmarked Joe Shepherd out wide right on the angle. Firing across the keeper for 2-1.

That took us into half time.

The restart was as sluggish as the first for LF. EL now hungry and looking for options. 2 former players in Hope and Gregson linking well and Gregson firing a good strike on the angle hitting the underside of the bar and in for 2-2.

Both sides had good half chances with EL no1 being the busier of the 2 but the game was locked in for the final whistle.

Pens is no way to win a game as we were also humbled last season in the MTT but the lads held there nerve with Gunning going 1st and Warburton making a scuppered effort from EL first spot kick.
LF unphased hit the net for the remaining kicks matched by EL.

A cracking hard fought contest and much respect on show πŸ‘

Thanks to anyone and everyone that came to show their support it was very much appreciated and welcomed.
Great to get a decent little crowd on it means a lot to the players πŸ‘Œ

We go again next week in the Laithwaite Shield and we hope to see a few more and help to get us over the line πŸ™Œ
